Michael Vaughan shrugged off yesterday's injury scare and has been passed fit to play in the second Test at Edgbaston, after resuming practice in the nets on Wednesday. Vaughan had been taken to hospital on Tuesday afternoon after being struck on the right elbow by a rising delivery from Chris Tremlett, where an X-ray revealed deep bruising but no fracture.

"I feel fine, the pain was from a trapped nerve. I've had an injection and I'm fit to play," Vaughan told reporters after batting for 20 minutes in the nets this morning. He began with gentle throwdowns from England's coach, Duncan Fletcher, before facing spin from Ashley Giles and Kevin Pietersen. The only moment of discomfort came when he was hit on the right hand by a rising delivery from Steve Harmison, and though he left the nets two balls later, he did not appear to be have been seriously hurt.

England are 1-0 down in the series after suffering a 239-run defeat at Lord's, a match in which they were twice bowled out for less than 200. Vaughan himself managed just seven runs in the game, batting at the pivotal No. 3 position, and the Australians remain convinced that Glenn McGrath, who wrecked England's top order with five quick wickets in the first innings, has got Vaughan's number.
