Western Australia took complete control of their Pura Cup match against Victoria on the first day at Perth, first bowling the Bushrangers out for 155 then coming within 26 runs of that without losing a wicket before the close. WA's dominance sets up the possibility of a hat-trick of hammerings: last week they walloped Victoria in a Twenty20 match and then an ING Cup game at the WACA.

Cameron White won the toss for Victoria, but his side was bundled out before tea for 155. The only substantial partnership came from Jason Arnberger, who made 53, and Brad Hodge (37). Of the others only White reached double figures with 17. The wickets were shared around: Brad Williams and Ben Edmondson took three apiece, while Darren Wates and Steve Magoffin both took two. Wates's came from successive balls, when he removed Hodge and Jon Moss, but David Hussey survived the hat-trick ball. Victoria's miserable batting display extended a poor run for the Pura Cup champions - they have only passed 200 twice in their first innings this season.

WA's experienced opening pair of Justin Langer and Michael Hussey survived intact to the close, by which time they had collected 129 runs from 42 overs, to be only 26 runs behind. White has already tried five bowlers, and his side seems set for a lot more legwork tomorrow.
