Victoria ran through the Tasmanian batting and triumphed by 114 runs in their Pura Cup clash at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The outright victory kept them in the tournament. Tasmania were bowled out for 198, well short of the 313 they required for victory after Victoria declared at 3 for 181 in the morning. In the quest for quick Runs, Brad Hodge fell for 88 and Jason Arnberger was dismissed for 71. Then Tasmania's openers put on 62 in 26 overs before Cameron White broke through. Michael Bevan looked set for his seventh ton of the season but was dismissed by Shane Warne just 14 runs short of what would have been a record-equalling hundred (Matthew Elliot has seven).

After Bevan's dismissal, the innings, already tottering, fell away completely. Warne and Shane Harwood removed four batsmen in 27 balls for only 13 runs. With Tasmania out of the way, Victoria's brief for reaching the final was clear: nothing less than outright victories against Queensland and New South Wales would do.
