Wairarapa pulled off a big surprise when beating Manawatu in the Central Zone secondary schoolgirls' cricket tournament at Wanganui today.
Manawatu after a good win yesterday scored 200-7 but saw Wairarapa reply with 201-6 in the 44th over. Ester Lancer scored 70 and Amy Lucas 36.
The batting honours of the day belonged to Horowhenua/Kapiti's Phillipa Gerish who retired after scoring 143 for her side in its game against Wanganui.
