Wairarapa have good win in schoolgirls' tournament

Wairarapa pulled off a big surprise when beating Manawatu in the Central Zone secondary schoolgirls' cricket tournament at Wanganui today.

Manawatu after a good win yesterday scored 200-7 but saw Wairarapa reply with 201-6 in the 44th over. Ester Lancer scored 70 and Amy Lucas 36.

The batting honours of the day belonged to Horowhenua/Kapiti's Phillipa Gerish who retired after scoring 143 for her side in its game against Wanganui.

Wellington 57 (Kelly Winkley 7-12, Zara Williams 2-6 ) lost to Hawke's Bay

58-4 (Jemma Davies 22*; Shan Ruck 2-13) by six wickets.

HUTT VALLEY V TARANAKI

Taranaki 148 (Aimee Mason 30, Toni Street 56; A Green 3-17) beat Hutt Valley 75 Toni Street 4-24, Aimee Mason 2-17) by 73 runs.

WAIRARAPA V MANAWATU

Manawatu 200-7 (Emily Collins 40, Hettie Blackburn 48*, Andrea Stockwell 30; Amy Lucas 3-29) lost to Wairarapa 201-6 ( Ester Lancer 70, Amy Lucas 36, Nicole Bouton 34*; Sharni Simpson 3- 40).

HOROWHENUA /KAPITI V WANGANUI

Horowhenua/Kapiti 295-5 (Phillipa Gerish 143 retired, Leanne Cole 62; Sarah Ratcliff 3-47) met Wanganui, no details provided.
