The much-awaited comeback of Shane Warne ended in a damp squib: he did not bowl a single ball, but scored 11 runs and took a catch on his first day of cricket since his one-year ban. Victoria 2nd XI began the 2nd day of their match against Queensland Academy of Sport, Warne's first, on 3 for 290. Brendan Joseland (139 not out) and Nicholas Jewell (137) added runs to their overnight centuries, allowing the Victoria 2nd XI team to declare on 6 for 379 shortly before lunch.

From then on, the attention of the approximately 500-strong crowd, including a large media presence, was on Warne. Fans at the Junction Oval were in for a disappointment, however, when rain forced a stoppage in play with Queensland on 1 for 87. Ryan Broad was the one batsman dismissed, by Brad Knowles. Soon after Broad was dismissed the players left the field. The rain intensified, and eventually play was called off just two minutes before 5pm, with no further play possible.

Warne, who replaced Jason Arnberger after the first day thanks to the flexibility of rules in Australian 2nd XI matches, will get his chance to bowl on the third day, and it will be with runs behind him. Victoria 2nd XI still lead by 292 runs.
