West Indies Domestic: Bradshaw is back

Now fully fit, allrounder Ian Bradshaw has been recalled to the Barbados team for their do-or-die semifinal Busta Cup cricket clash with the Leewards tomorrow at Kensington Oval.

The 25-year-old Bradshaw returns to the national side after missing the matches against Jamaica, the Windwards and Trinidad and Tobago.

He made a good impression in the opening matches against Guyana and the Leewards.

Tall, teenage, left-arm spinner Sulieman Benn has been left out of the 13 selected for the last match at the Queen's Park Oval.

Barbados topped the preliminaries with 48 points, but, like all the other teams, have not quite distinguished themselves in what has been a sub-standard competition.

Their two victories were recorded against the two weakest competitors, the Windwards and Trinidad, both of whom have been eliminated.

Test openers Adrian Griffith and Sherwin Campbell have managed little while left-arm fast bowler Pedro Collins is still to make his mark.

In five matches, former Test cap Roland Holder has not made a 50 and fans are still hoping for the promising Ryan Hurley to show some maturity with a long innings.

The few bright spots have been captain Philo Wallace, who has had hundreds off Guyana and Trinidad, and big, fast bowler Dayne Maynard, who has confounded the critics with 17 scalps at just 20.58 apiece, an impresisve showing by a man written off by some at the start of the season.

Dave Marshall is the second highest wicket-taker in the entire competition with 24 wickets, 11 of them taken against the Windwards, known novices to leg-breaks and googlies.

The Leewards were ordinary in the early matches but turned up a gear against Jamaica, handing Jimmy Adams' men an innings defeat at the Antigua Recreation Ground.

Some observers believe the winners here will go on to win the tournament.
