Adams was promoted to No. 3, as Lara tried to rest an injured wrist, and ensured victory with a career-best 82. He shared stands of 109 with Campbell and 70 with Hooper. They benefited from the disappearance of McGrath, whose first match of the series ended when he twisted his ankle in the second over of West Indies' innings. Earlier, Australia made a promising start when Mark Waugh and Gilchrist opened with 108, but could not carry it through as off-spinner Perry picked up three wickets.
