North, who debuted for WA last summer, replaces Damien Martyn in the middle order after Martyn's recall to the Australian side for the third Ansett Australia Test.

North has been in outstanding form with the bat, scoring 192 for Bayswater-Morley in round five of the SunSmart League on 2 December. He has also captained the BGC WA Second Xl in their last two ACB Cup matches, scoring a terrific double of 101 and 80 against Tasmania last month.

"Marcus has been in fantastic touch and we had no hesitation in calling him into the side," said WA Chairman of Selectors, Kim Hughes.

"While there was some speculation over our batting line-up we're prepared to back the opening combination as we did late last summer. Going into this match, we are confident that Ryan Campbell and Mike Hussey are the best opening combination for WA cricket."

Western Warriors: Tom Moody (captain), Jo Angel, Ryan Campbell, Murray Goodwin, Brad Hogg, Mike Hussey, Brendon Julian, Simon Katich, Marcus North, Brad Oldroyd, Gavin Swan, Mark Walsh. Wayne Clark (coach).
