World Cup selection starts for Kenya women
Kenya's team for the women's World Cup qualifiers could be made up of schoolgirls
Kenya's team for the women's World Cup qualifiers could be made up of schoolgirls. Team selection begins in Nairobi on May 24, which is the start of a month-long cricket challenge. Four secondary schools will take part - Kenya High, Moi Girls, Peponi School and St George's.
"We're going to use this tournament as the yardstick to select players to the national team," explained the Kenya women's coach, Dan Okinyo. But more players will also be selected during a girls' schools league in Nairobi, which will be held in June and July. Those schools taking place will include Cutch Leva, Huruma and Nairobi Pentecostal Chruch Buru Buru.
The qualifiers will also be held in Nairobi in December, where seven national sides will compete for the chance to join South Africa at the World Cup in Sri Lanka. The seven sides are expected to be Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Namibia, Nigeria and Zimbabwe.
