Yuvraj Singh, the Indian batsman, is likely to receive a grade A contract when the BCCI player contracts come up for renewal at the end of September. Yuvraj has had a great year in one-day cricket averaging 56.40 with eight fifties and four hundreds since October 2005.
Niranjan Shah, the board secretary, said that though the list of players hadn't been decided yet, the board would reward those players who have performed consistently. "It all depends on our panel's opinion and what kind of suggestions the cricket board gets from the captain and coach of the Indian team," Shah told the Times of India.
"Some of the players like Yuvraj and [Mahendra Singh] Dhoni have done well for the national team recently and their performances will come under consideration when the list is decided." Shah added that there would be some new faces in the list this year.
Shah also made it clear that the players would comply with the marketing clauses in the contract. "All of them have agreed to the terms and conditions of the board."
The contract review committee includes Sharad Pawar, the board president, Niranjan Shah and Kiran More, the chairman of the selection committee. Current contracts come to an end on September 30.
