Zimbabwe 5/1 to cause upset

India are hot 1/9 favourites to win the next game of the VB Series, their first against Zimbabwe

India are hot 1/9 favourites to win the next game of the VB Series, their first against Zimbabwe. Heath Streak's men are still smarting from a heavy defeat by Australia in their opening match, but remain in with a slight chance according to the latest odds - they 5/1 outsiders to cause an upset. This is the first of two daylight games this week at Hobart's Bellerive Oval.

As usual, Sachin Tendulkar is tipped as the top Indian batsman - he is 15/8 to lead the Indian scoring. Virender Sehwag could fill his boots against the Zimbabweans, and is temptingly priced at 5/2. Of the outsiders, Yuvraj Singh is most attractively priced at 11/1.

Tatenda Taibu is the stand-out bet among the Zimbabwe batsmen in the Top Team Batsman market. Taibu, the young wicketkeeper-batsman, is 9/1 to top-score for his side - and given the number of times he has battled away in adversity, he can't be ignored by punters. Heath Streak - the top-scorer in the first match against Australia - also represents good value at 15/2.

Player Performance bets are also available for this match. Players receive points for their contribution during the game - 1 point per run, 20 points per wicket, 10 points per catch. Streak is priced at 48 - so choose whether he will register more or less than 48 - and with bowlers receiving 20 points per wicket, and Streak likely to get a bat, 48 seems to underestimate his likely contribution to the cause. Tendulkar is priced at 66: runs seem almost inevitable against relatively weak opposition, so again, punters could do well to predict more than 66 points.

Series Odds update

India are out to 11/5 following Australia's victory over Zimbabwe. Australia come in to 3/10, and Zimbabwe are rank outsiders at 66/1. In the Top Batsman market, Tendulkar is 13/8 favourite, with Adam Gilchrist and Ricky Ponting hot on his heels at 5/1. Andrew Symonds - the top Australia runscorer in each of their matches so far and the leading VB Series runscorer so far - is 7/1.
