Located in Providence, about 9km south of the capital, Georgetown, the Providence stadium has three major stands and a grass mound that can accommodate 4,000 people, giving an overall capacity of around 15,000. Built for the 2007 World Cup, the venue cost in the region of $30 million, with much of the funding coming by way of loans and grants from India. The venue hosted its first Test in 2008, but it wasn't a happy one for the hosts, as Sri Lanka beat West Indies by 121 runs. However, in the next Test here, in May 2011, West Indies recorded their first win, beating Pakistan by 40 runs.
