Scans have revealed that Australia T20 captain Aaron Finch suffered a "moderate grade" injury to his left hamstring during the second T20 against India. Cricket Australia's physio Alex Kountouris said having Finch fit for the World T20, where Australia play their first game on March 18, is the target.

Finch had picked up the injury while running between the wickets at the MCG, during a 48-ball 74. Kountouris said: "Aaron had scans on his injured left hamstring that confirmed a moderate grade hamstring injury. This is not a recurrence of the previous hamstring injury that required surgery in April 2015.

"Although this current injury doesn't require surgery there is a period of rehabilitation required before he can resume playing.

"We are aiming to have Aaron fit for the ICC World T20 in India but will have better idea about his fitness for that tournament in the coming weeks once we see how he responds to treatment and a rehabilitation program."

Meanwhile, batsman Usman Khawaja has been added to the ODI squad for the series in New Zealand, which begins on February 3, to cover for Finch's absence.

Why people forgetting about Faulkner so easily ? Did they forget his performance in the last series australia played in India ? Also Faulkner is a genuine match winner and can finish a game with the bat as well. Even if finch is fit I would not have played him ahead of khawaja. Also Watson's form and experience in India will be valubale for this Australian side. So he must be picked in the main 11.

Warner, Khawaja , Smith , Watson, Bailey, Maxwell, Paine , Faulkner , Starc , Hazzlewood, Boyce.

Khawaja for Finch, I think the Australians just got better already. I am utterly shocked that Finch is the captain, even getting on the plane to the WC.

@mumair i am with you on making smith, warner and khawja play all 3 formats as they are class players. Also perhaps Finch has been part of problem now the solution. If he is unfit for T20WC Watson a clean swap. Leaves Khawaja at 3 Smith 4 and the young guns at 5 & 6. Maxwell 7 Faulkner 8 Wade 9 (selectors love him I would leave him at home) and then 2 extra bowlers neither of which would be Tait. His pace only frightens commentators rather than opposition batsmen. Watson has form on low turning Indian wickets. Finch hasn't. Finch's captaincy underwhelming. Captain? How about fully engaging Maxwell in the game supported by Smith and Warner.

Really like your batting line-up, assuming Finch is not fit. The problem arises if he is fit, because with his form and record you just can't drop him. I'd have him in the squad instead of Head. I'd also have Agar in the squad instead of Faulks, who has played himself out of contention. Like Paine as WK, but Neville also appeals. Lack of quicks is a real worry, even given that it's old heads and spinners that will give us our best chance.None of the "second string" pacemen tried in the ODIs and T20s, except Hastings, have come close to the mark, with Richardson the closest. Khawaja is in pure gold form and is averaging close to 200 in T20 in domestic cricket so he is a must. For what it's worth, I'd go: Khawaja Warner Watson Smith Bailey Maxwell M Marsh Neville Hastings Agar Boyce

    Pattinson (Richardson), Klinger, and Zampa

Warner, Khawaja, Smith should be regular players in all three formats of game. Watson, Warner are best opener for T20 cricket. AUS should introduce new thing in T20 cricket. they should produce two infield coach instead of a T20 captain. T20 squad should be, Watson, Warner, Khawaja, Smith, Finch, Bailey, Maxwell, Pain, Faulkner, M-Marsh, NCN, Cumins, Starc, Boyce, (Patinsons, Helfinhaus, Mckay, Hazelwood)

Fantastic to see khawaja added to the NZ squad as he is pure class. I would love to see Watson, Warner, Khawaja, Finch, Maxwell as our top 5 if finch is injured as it won't be easy for him to get back with a moderate hamstring strain. If finch is fit then Here's my T20 XI for the WC, with four reserves:

Finch Warner Khawaja Smith(C) Watson Maxwell Nevill+ Faulkner Boyce Hazlewood Tye

    Bailey MMarsh Behrendorff Lyon
