South Africa v New Zealand, 2005-06

ESPNcricinfo staff

At Centurion, November 6, 2005. South Africa won by five wickets (D/L method). Toss: South Africa.

South Africa completed a satisfying 4-0 victory with their most straightforward win of the series. Tight bowling - especially from Hall, who kept the middle order quiet with four wickets - held New Zealand to 215. Then a thunderstorm after 19 overs, with South Africa 105 for two, reduced the target to 140 in 30 overs. The bad feeling that had simmered throughout the tour boiled over when de Villiers fell for 11: the usually taciturn Fleming took the catch, and ran around whooping and waving his arms in a passable impersonation of Smith's animated wicket celebrations. Mills also indulged in a tetchy tête-à-tête with the South African captain, but Smith was not concerned: after passing double figures in each of his previous innings in the series without pressing on, he made 66 this time, cracking 13 fours - six off the fulminating Mills - and the result was never in doubt, despite another tight spell from Vettori. Langeveldt was fined 75% of his match fee for celebrating his dismissal of Hamish Marshall before the umpire had given him out, while Styris was fined 25% for swearing at the umpire. Mickey Arthur, South Africa's coach, was also fined for confronting the umpires as they left the field.

Man of the Match: A. J. Hall.
