Azharuddin's world record

by Atul Kahate

On Friday, Indian skipper Mohammed Azharuddin became the highest run-scorer in Limited Overs International (LOI) cricket. With this, two Indians (Sachin Tendulkar: 19 hundreds) and (Azhar: 8649 runs) now hold the two major batting world records in this type of cricket. Azhar beat the world record of the West Indian Desmond Haynes, held for 4 years and 246 days.

Haynes scored 8648 runs in 238 matches and 237 innings; Azhar needed 302 matches and 278 innings to overtake him. Azhar was born on 8 February 1963 at Hyderabad and made his debut against England at Bangalore on 20 January 1985.

In the following tables, the complete analysis of Azhar's world record is presented. Tables (A) and (B) list the leading run scorers in LOI cricket for all teams and India, respectively. All other tables detail Azhar's individual performance from every possible angle.
