The Vine Cricket Ground is one of the oldest in England and was donated to Sevenoaks in 1773 by John Frederick Sackville, 3rd Duke of Dorset - the Sevenoaks Vine CC was formed in 1734. The name comes from the fact it was used as a vineyard for the Archbishops of Canterbury. In the 18th century the ground was one of the most prominent in the country and two record scores were made here. In 1774 Richard Miller scored 95 and three years later in 1777 James Aylward made 167 for Hampshire against All-England.
