Colonel Ian Campbell played for London County, MCC and once for Middlesex with little success, although he claimed to have twice bowled out WG Grace. He served in the Territorial Force from 1894 to 1907 and then on the western front with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, reaching the rank of lieutenant-colonel by the time he retired in 1929. He was twice chairman of the Wine and Sprit Association and wrote two books on the subject.
