Wisden Overview
Major Leo Bennett was the man who, so the story goes, Surrey wanted to appoint as their first post-war captain in 1946 but an administrative blunder led to the position being offered to Major Nigel Bennett, a far less capable cricketer. Leo Bennett was well know in club cricket, captaining the BBC side for many years, as well as writing on the subject. He also captained the Club Cricket Conference and played in wartime matches for the British Empire XI. Between 1947 and 1949 he played intermittently for Northamptonshire with no real success.
