A lower middle-order batsman and offspinner, Phil Bromley made his debut for Warwickshire on his 17th birthday in July, 1947, but it was not until 1952 that he became a regular in the side, securing his place with some good performances in the early part of the summer, culminating in a career-best unbeaten 121 against Essex. His form fell away significantly after that, and by early August he had lost his place. He finished the season with 394 runs at 21.88. He was again in and out of the team in 1953 and 1954, which was his best season with 422 runs at 30.14. He left the staff at the end of that summer. He continued to play second XI cricket for another 12 years, for some time as captain.
