From the Wynnum-Manly club, Scott O'Leary is a promising young right arm off spinner and nuggety lower order batsman. Having been a member of various Queensland colts teams, the state under-19 side of 1996-97, and a part of the Queensland Academy of Sport in 1998-99, he has been earmarked in Brisbane as a player of the future for some time now. Indeed, his elevation (in June 2000) to the state's senior squad for the first time was seen by many in his home city as the latest step in a steady rise toward the top. O'Leary is a determined player and is liked among his peers as much for his wholehearted approach as for his accuracy, his control, and his willingness to flight the ball when called upon to bowl. He will likely find it difficult in the short term to edge ahead of each of Geoff Foley, Matthew Anderson and Dale Turner but, with time on his side, a long and successful stint as one of the Bulls' key slow bowlers looms as a very genuine possibility for him.
