A compact left handed opening batsman, Troy Dixon is a fringe first class player who resides in Queensland. Burly of build but nimble on his feet, he is a pugnacious batsman who is most at home when forcing the ball square of the wicket or working it through the covers. He is also highly regarded as a fieldsman, especially when stationed in the slips or the gully region. Given that he is based in a State which has continued to hover in the top half of both the first class and one-day standings over recent years, it has not been easy for Dixon to break into the eleven at any stage and he has naturally been starved of opportunities to this stage of his career. He does have a first class century to his name (unusually enough, this was made against South African opponent Western Province in the lead-up to the 1995-96 season) but is now on the wrong side of thirty and it does not appear that he will ever truly establish himself. His biggest highlight will almost certainly remain his inclusion in Queensland's successful 1999-2000 Pura Milk Cup Final team; the joy of being a part of only the Bulls' third ever such success and the memory of his sensational gully catch during the match to remove Mathew Inness both sure to live with him forever.
