India v Pakistan, Champions Trophy, Group B, Edgbaston June 14, 2013

Just another dead rubber? Think again

170

Match Facts

Saturday, June 15, 2013, Edgbaston
Start time 10.30am (9.30 GMT)

Big Picture

This was supposed to be the marquee clash of the league stage. Tickets for the game were sold out within 30 minutes of being made available online. It isn't a coincidence that the match is scheduled for Saturday primetime viewing in India and Pakistan and could have decided the group. Instead, to the organisers' dismay, we are left with a dead rubber as India have already qualified for the semi-finals and Pakistan are eliminated.

Unlike most dead rubbers though, there's still plenty of interest since it is still an India v Pakistan match. The number of contests between the two sides has decreased over the past few years due to the strained political relations between the two countries, and fans are still eager for any chance to see the great rivals face off.

One of India's proudest one-day records is that they have never lost to Pakistan in a World Cup game, having triumphed in all five encounters. Pakistan have a similarly spotless record against India in the Champions Trophy, though there have only been two clashes between the two sides.

While Pakistan will be looking to extend that run in Birmingham, India will be looking for payback after a stinging defeat in the one-day series at home earlier this year.

In that series, Pakistan showed off the potency of their bowling attack, and India's batsmen were left nonplussed. It will again be a confrontation between Pakistan's bowling might and India's batting strength. This time, MS Dhoni's side have some of the most in-form batsmen around. In contrast, Pakistan's batting has been seriously underwhelming, while India's bowlers, about whom there was much apprehension coming into the tournament, have not done too shabbily thus far.

Form guide

(Most recent first)

India: WWLWW
Pakistan: LLWTW

In the Spotlight

Umesh Yadav was talked up as a quick bowler who could provide India's bowling with teeth, but though he has been pacy, he has consistently been taken for runs. After 19 ODIs, his career economy is an unflattering 6.32. He has the ability to deliver yorkers, and bowls the slower delivery as well, which means India will continue to look to him to solve the team's death-bowling issues.

Mohammad Hafeez is one of the senior figures in the Pakistan one-day side, and presumably the man who will take over when Misbah-ul-Haq retires. With Pakistan's batting struggling in recent games, Hafeez has also floundered - five of his last seven ODI innings are single-digit scores. He continues to be a handy offspinner, but Pakistan need him to pull his weight in batting as well.

Team news

Having already qualified, India have the opportunity to try out some of the others in the squad, but it is unlikely they will make any changes.

India: (probable) 1 Shikhar Dhawan, 2 Rohit Sharma, 3 Virat Kohli, 4 Dinesh Karthik, 5 MS Dhoni (capt & wk), 6 Suresh Raina, 7 Ravindra Jadeja, 8 R Ashwin, 9 Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 10 Umesh Yadav, 11 Ishant Sharma

Pakistan also have the liberty to shuffle around their team. The bowling has been functioning well so it doesn't need much tinkering. One of the main questions will be whether Shoaib Malik gets another chance in the middle order. Imran Farhat has also had two failures, and it remains to be seen whether he stays in the side.

Pakistan: (probable) 1 Mohammad Hafeez, 2 Nasir Jamshed, 3 Asad Shafiq, 4 Misbah-ul-Haq (capt), 5 Umar Amin, 6 Shoaib Malik, 7 Kamran Akmal (wk), 8 Wahab Riaz, 9 Saeed Ajmal, 10 Junaid Khan, 11 Mohammad Irfan

Pitch and conditions

It will be another chilly day in Birmingham, with a predicted maximum temperature of 14C. The forecast also suggests light rain through the afternoon. It hasn't been a run-filled wicket in Edgbaston so far, with a highest total of 269 in three matches. Expect another slow track.

Stats and Trivia

  • Malik's last 50-plus ODI score came in the 2009 Champions Trophy, against India

  • Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma have put on consecutive century stands for the first wicket. Before them, the last time India's openers put on back-to-back hundred partnerships was in 2007

Quotes

"Whenever we play each other it's like a final for everybody."
Misbah-ul-Haq

"If their thinking is that the game against India must be won as a consolation prize just because they have not qualified for the semi-finals, they will be in big trouble."
MS Dhoni

@glowing__ss. Your thinking is normal of what was expected long time ago. I can not imagine how a country with millions of people and thousands playing crickets for more than 60 years can not find a wicket keeper. There must be some magic in Kamran and let us see if that magic go away after this poor showing. I DO NOT LIKE YOUR IDEA OF AFRIDI AS CAPTAIN. NEED A NEW CAPTAIN BUT NOT Afridi or HAFIZ.A new team with a new captain is the solution.

I've never really managed to get into this rivalry much, especially in recent times, since there's been so much exaggerated hype about both teams. Certainly, the fact that this match is a dead rubber doesn't help with that at all. For the sake of One Day Cricket, however, I hope that it's a close one, but I doubt it will be worth following the game very closely. My tournament prediction is South Africa vs India in the final, and a South African win from there. The Ashes had better get here soon so we can watch the REAL cricket.

  • on June 15, 2013, 9:14 GMT

So many greats playing on both sides.... Dhoni, Ajmal, Misbah, Kohli.... Respect for these masters of the game... all the best to both teams... May the Game win.

  • glowing_ss on June 15, 2013, 9:13 GMT

After Losing to India Very Badly & Getting Rid of Selection Panel, I hope Pakistan Team will be 1. Nasir (VC) 2. Ahmad / Imran Nazir / Shahzaib (Depend upon the Form) 3. UmarAkmal (VC) (K) 4. Haris Sohail 5. Misbah / (New WK in future) 6. Hafeez / Hammad (Depend upon the pitch) 7. Afridi (C) 8. Wahab 9. Saeed 10.Junaid 11.Irfan / Gul (Depend upon the team)

Keeping in view the rebuilding give these players long run. Real Talent of Pak for ODI.

  • Kashi0127 on June 15, 2013, 9:06 GMT

Why India should Change Bowlers: If Umesh Yadav, Bhuvnesh, Ashiwn are the main bowlers and they get smashed all around it would be demoralizing going into semis. If on the other hand they try Vinay, Pathan and Mishra its a win win situation. If they get hit, you can still feel good having tried 2nd best bowling unit and feel confident going to semis. If they do well you have a good backup team!

No matter what the context is, a Ind-Pak game will always be exciting. I am a Pakistani fan but I personally hope that I. Farhat and S. Malik fail again, because it is painful to see younger players with more talent and BETTER STATS being overlooked. Fawad Alam + Umar Akmal = 75.43, Farhat + Malik = 63.46. Talent and outcome is being blatantly wasted. Both youngsters are also excellent (out)fielders, so fielding isn't a reason either... I also hope Asad Ali gets a chance to play...

I hope that Pakistani Bowlers will do their job superbly... But I do also hope that Pakistani Batsmen will show their poor quality... Except our Great Captain. Just praying that it should be a Great Game, rain shouldn't destroy the result. No matter who wins the race. But Support for Green Shirts!!!

  • baywatch_123 on June 15, 2013, 8:52 GMT

Don't think about the histories, just think about the today's match. both teams are very strong, pak team is very strong by their bowling and Ind team is very strong by their batting lineup. lets play the game. :)

  • gunaseelan on June 15, 2013, 8:51 GMT

Both Teams have a good leadership. The difference is the other players. Pakistan Batting line up need to raise for the occasion. Misbah lead from the front for batting. But none other batsmen support him. On the other hand, Dhoni made his name for his leadership and his batting. Misbah need to help the team players to give their best.

  • on June 15, 2013, 8:47 GMT

Do or Die for the both teams. Defiantly india win.

  • on June 15, 2013, 8:47 GMT

Fantastic match if it does happen .

  • SHAIKH_1982 on June 15, 2013, 8:45 GMT

They are trying to hype up this game but this is a true dead rubber game! Win, lose or tie India will top the group while Pakistan will be bottom.

  • on June 15, 2013, 8:44 GMT

An India vs Pakistan match is always exciting, although a dead rubber makes it a little less interesting.

India's batsmen have a done a terrific job so far. Dhawan has been outstanding and Rohit has done very well, too. Karthik played a fine knock in the last match and Jadeja's 47 against the Proteas was brilliant. He did really well with the ball, too, against the Windies. The specialist bowlers need to do better, though.

The Pakistani bowlers have been excellent in this tournament but the batting has been horrible to say the least. Misbah and Jamshed, to some extent, have been the only batters whose performance can be called, "satisfactory." They will be relying on their bowlers to win the game for them. I, personally, don't see the batsmen doing anything exceptional today.

India will start off as the favorites for this one, having won the two games that have been played. Pakistan must be desperate to win this one to salvage some pride and beat their arch-rivals.

  • jab4e on June 15, 2013, 8:40 GMT

There's always more pressure on Pakistan in these Ind-Pak games, just because of how (badly)fans there react to defeats. Should be a good game to see Pak's talented bowling facing off against our formidable batting.

  • CricketSundar on June 15, 2013, 8:35 GMT

Wow this is going to be a epic encounter with Indian batting strength and Pakistan Bowling strength. cant wait to see the match . Good luck to both the teams and play good cricket.

  • lankawekollek on June 15, 2013, 8:31 GMT

I think pakistan going to win this.

  • on June 15, 2013, 8:27 GMT

It's India all the way, I believe. Good luck my team (Pakistan) but the killing instinct that this Indian outfit carries is almost seductively attractive :)

  • on June 15, 2013, 8:26 GMT

@GRVJPR-Ha ha why did you compare only last 20 ODIs.Lets compare all ODIs.We have played 124 ODIs together.PAK-71,IND-49.I am sure you are going to be painful.

  • on June 15, 2013, 8:18 GMT

History shows that when ever these rivals face each other there is always great tight cricket match. We hope same will happen today. Looking farward for good match.

  • on June 15, 2013, 8:14 GMT

I just want Pakistan to loose against India , coz i cant see these old faces for another 5 years... :@ :@

What fierce rivalry? Last 20 games India wins 15 pakistan 5. It's India dominating all the way. One sided affair.

  • on June 15, 2013, 8:06 GMT

let the match begin and watch if Pakistan bowlers can stop Indian Batsmen...as far as Pakistan Batting is concerned, they will destroy themselves.

  • on June 15, 2013, 8:00 GMT

hope this game goes down to the wire. it should do justice to indopak match and hope it will be a nail biting encounter

  • on June 15, 2013, 8:00 GMT

I think India has come into such a situation after quite a decade (may be) where they have a game which really don't effect their fate as they are already through. If MS and team management use this as an opportunity to give some "benchers" a chance it would be great, specially in the bowling unit. As their bowling didn't match their batting. May be Irfan (Pathan) could be given a chance as well as Mishra. They really in need to strengthen their bowling unit before the knockout.

  • on June 15, 2013, 7:59 GMT

If the tournament organisers wanted to avoid this being a dead rubber, then they should have put it in the first round of group matches, and not the last.

  • Cricket_Man on June 15, 2013, 7:48 GMT

I hope the match is abandoned because of rain. Dead rubber? No thank you, I'd prefer watching the final and I mean the real final.

  • 6Stumps on June 15, 2013, 7:47 GMT

Gotta say this - the fierce rivalry between India and Pak aside, the Pakistani fans have been a very decent and sporting bunch. On several occasions they were seen at Indian threads commending India's performance unlike some other fans who have nothing but hatred for India. Wish both the teams the best of luck for today's game. Hope its a cracker!

  • on June 15, 2013, 7:47 GMT

this seems be a one sided match ...

  • supadupamonk on June 15, 2013, 7:39 GMT

India Has Forgoten The Only 100,s Of Nasir Jamshed And Defeat On Their Homeland. How india CAn think Of wining This Match inwhich Nasir Jamshed Batting And Muhammad Irfan(drone attack from 9 feet!!!) bowling.

  • Bharatvarsh.. on June 15, 2013, 7:27 GMT

will be a cracker of the game..althoguh,it seems india is favorite in the match, but seems pakistan might win this one.when they play freely, they are hard to beat.

also they have new brand of bowlers with ajmal factor always there and india do have quality batsman, but most of the batsman haven't faced these pak bowlers regularly, unlike the likes of sachin,yuvraj,sehwag..

so it would be interesting to know how dhawan, rohit, karthik respond to these bowlers, even if india loses the match, india should not worry much, unless it turns out to be a one sided affair.india will be better prepared in next big semi final match.

from pak perspective, they need win to have something for their nation,so they will come hard with nothing to lose.

if india bowls very well, then pak has very little chance of winning this contest.

  • MohamedBasheer on June 15, 2013, 7:17 GMT

what happened for Irfan Pathan? Will he be in today playing XI or not ? nowhere and nobady discussed why ? My playing XI today - Dhawan, Rohit, Kholi, Karthik, Raina, Dhoni, Jadeja, Irfan, Buvi, Aswin, Umesh

  • andrewarthur on June 15, 2013, 7:14 GMT

I don't think it's the fiercest rivalry in cricket.Fiercest rivalry's got to be ENG-AUS ashes, but then again,i'm ENGLISH.Coming back to the match,INDIANS have undoubtedly gotten a mighty batting line-up and it sorta looks impossible for pakistan to get through them, but then again,PAKISTAN is unpredictable!

  • Captain_Tuk_Tuk on June 15, 2013, 7:12 GMT

@bhavesh__j Well said mate India and Pakistan rivalry is not as it used to be we can live together as good neighbors and two cricket loving nations but still we neighbors are having competition that who is better ;) And we Pakistanis are also happy that you qualified for semis as you guys deserve that with team like that best of luck for the semis India, I am supporting my neighbors. From Pakistani fan :)

  • ReverseSweepIndia on June 15, 2013, 7:02 GMT

I do not think form of individual player will matter much coming into this match. It has never played any part when i comes to Ind-Pak. Player either raise their game to levels too high or they do crumble under pressure. And each match starts from 0. Irfan and Junaid are going to create problem. Ajaml have not done anything special so far, and he is too good a bowler to be kept quite for longer time. Same hold true for Virat who has not scored much in previous 2 matches. I always want my team to win against Pak. But always admired them and supported when not playing against us. But this time I think it will be blessing in disguise for them if they lose. I do not want to see pathetic display of Farhats, shoaibs and akmals. The thrill Jonaids and Irfans generate get killed the moment these street batsman come out to bat. And less said about our bowlers better. Still Game on... good luck to both teams, play fair play hard

  • parikshit_Ops on June 15, 2013, 5:56 GMT

@ Ramoz I know that I shouldn't bring politics in this wonderful game of cricket and this is the 1st time I am talking. India Sent its army in SL to hunt down its own ethnic people, howz that?. If you remember. By matter of fact, There were violations of human rights in SL. Its case in Ind/PAK also Even if they are few, what you expect from a country, when its ethnic people who are suffering in another nation , pose a powerful political lobby which no central coalition can't ignore if they want to stay in power. On the other hand, India - PAK has a much much murkier history, 4 wars and what not, but anybody talking about it here? Why, because its nothing to do with Cricket. You may not support IND, but u need to acknowledge good performances. Sorry Cricinfo, but please publish it.

  • asad501 on June 15, 2013, 5:49 GMT

i wish the selectors had been a bit more carefull in choosing the pakistani squad which lacks of performing batsmen, pakistan would'nt have to face this situation (being elimentated from the cup) according to my prospective and opnion this should have been a better team for the champions trophy: my team: top order: nasir jamshed ahmed shehzad / azhar ali mohammad rizwan / adnan akmal

middle order: khalid latif /asad shafiq /younis khan mohammad hafeez misbah ul haq

lower order: abdul razzaq saeed ajmal junaid khan mohammad irfan

  • on June 15, 2013, 5:44 GMT

Pakistan will be a different team altogether today. Play the same failed batsmen or change them will not make any difference. Their batting has potential of a champion batting side. And it goes without saying that their performance has not lived up to their potential, at least in the current tournament. With champion teams playing against each other, in order to convert potential into performance you need mental strength. And that is sadly what the Pakistani batsmen lack. Well, most of them. Today, with nothing to loose, but their pride, I believe the Pakistani batsmen will be emancipated from this monkey, we call 'mental strength'. Keep your fingers crossed!

  • Otuwa on June 15, 2013, 5:42 GMT

An interesting match. Both are Asian teams and our neighbours. And i hope this match is going to be a good battle. But this isn't a knockout match nevertheless IND vs PAK matches are fill with lot of emotions and ambitions. So very interesting match.I can't understand what team i should support.Ok i am going with green jersey.Reason is i can remember 96 world cup final in Lahore.Pakistan fans roared Sri Lanka zindabad Sri Lanka zindabad......Anyway good luck for both the teams.

    --SL fan--

  • andrewarthur on June 15, 2013, 5:20 GMT

I'm an ENGLISH,and i have to tell you that INDIA's got to be the best batting side in the world at the moment!I fancy an ENG-IND final and it'd take very good performance on the part of us ENGLISH to beat INDIA.As far as this IND-PAK counter's concerned, there's no comparison at all.I mean INDIANS can chase down a mighty 350 as well which i doubt PAKISTAN will ever reach in the first place.

  • on June 15, 2013, 5:18 GMT

the match will be better than the final..............

  • on June 15, 2013, 5:17 GMT

@Baseball-Sucks..is'nt its funny that you talk about lack of SPIRIT from india when you are showing just the same lack of spirit everytime...when SL won against Eng most Indian fans appreciated SL and Sanga for their win, nobody gave excuses yet you are always omnipresent in articles related to india's win constantly trying to undermine the win giving reasons why India were lucky...at-least try not to be so biased

Pakistan's bowling is enirely different when compared to SA and WI. They have a lot of variety in Ajmal, Hafeez, Junaid, Wahab, Mohd Irfan. So, India might come under pressure while chasing. Since India's batsmen are in good touch, they should choose to bat first up, in case they win the toss, so that they score without any pressure and as much as they can. Then Pakistan batting can be tested, because our bowling is not stronger as theirs. But it will be a good contest to watch, praying for rain to stay away for this good contest. Pakistan Vs India, the feeling itself is great similar to Aus Vs Eng, wherever they play. England has plenty of Indian and Pakistani expatriates to give good support. Waiting for a fiiting match.

The reason India is doing well is because they have let go of baggage of players of past reputation not delivering with the likes of Harbhajan, Sehwag, Gambhir and not carrying on with players who are not 100% fit like Zaheer, Yuvraj etc. Also we are playing to our strength i.e. BATTING wherein the batsmen are making their form count. What INDIA has done good is to select players in form with the likes of Rohit, Karthik and are one of the best fielding sides in the tournament. PAKISTAN on contrary I believe are talented bunch of BOWLING unit. I don't know what's on earth is wrong with their BATSMEN. None of them demands selection in the playing XI. Hope to see a good contest and hopefully PAK team will put up a good fight..!!

  • elgenioroshan on June 15, 2013, 4:14 GMT

@Remoz - I like your analysis. But why are you mixing politics with cricket? The indian govt. voted against SL but not the Indian Team. And BCCI has its own reason to not use DRS. That doesn't mean they are controlling cricket. ICC cannot force any country to oblige by their terms. Also I always supported SL when they play against overseas nation because we are neighbours but then this rivalry started between Ind and SL during the IPL where you guys said that Indian bowlers are mediocre, batsmen can only whack on flat wickets and teams consisting good SL players lost because of "mediocre" indians. Those are the words used by your fellow SL commenters. Since then I lost interest in supporting for SL. I hope SL win against Aus next match so they would face Ind in semis and then all rivalry will be sorted out about whose better and all that suff which has been going on since IPL.

I am from Pakistan, but i praise MS Dhoni a lot, He is the best Skipper India ever produced. May be a bad day can stop india in taking the trophy home.

  • on June 15, 2013, 3:39 GMT

@ Baseball-Sucks, you said that "it should be a walk in the park" for both SA and WI before the Ind-SA and Ind-WI matches, and we saw how India actually won comfortably both times. So thanks for making the same observation again... G'luck!!!

  • pravesh1992 on June 15, 2013, 3:35 GMT

cosidering all your comments ,reality is India are in the semis of CT and Pakistan is out of the tornament

  • alipk52 on June 15, 2013, 3:34 GMT

Well Al though it's dead rubber, but Pakistan will play for pride, this time there batting have to do well, bowling department also have some challenge this time with great indian batters, but Pakistan should take advantage of India's not so good bowling, but in my opinion, India has clear upper hand here, hopefuly Pakistani bowlers continue there dominance against India's batting after the recent series, but this time it's very difficult, All eyes on Jamshed & Hafeez, who have done brilliantly against Indian bowlers recently, this is shame really there are no finishers in Pakistan's line-up, in comparison to India who have every batsmans who can finish as well.

  • Albert_cambell on June 15, 2013, 3:33 GMT

Virat Kohli is an overhyped player. He scored most of runs against weak bowling attacks like SL and BD. Indian fans still boast him like he is the best batsman in the world after scoring his runs against weak bowling attacks on Flat tracks. Last time he looked clueless when he faced pakistani bowlers.Even in this series too he is yet to score a half century. I am sure he wont score more than 10 runs on tommorow.

  • aturianilk on June 15, 2013, 3:14 GMT

@Baseball-Sucks, Great analysis(lol..). But for the matter of fact, Pak lost their both the matches with the same fantastic pace attack and India won their both the matches against the same opponents with the average bowling attack. Grow up man...

  • Praba14 on June 15, 2013, 2:56 GMT

Pakistan should win the contest today. Shoib Malik would come good today as he always bully Indian bowling attack. This time it is much easier with the average Indian bowlers.

  • TeamSelector on June 15, 2013, 2:41 GMT

I hope India bats first, that way at least we get to see one side bat a full 50 overs. There is no way hell that this Pakistan 'batting' line up will go the distance. Ireland would have probably put up a better fight.

  • on June 15, 2013, 2:30 GMT

India are favorites in this battle!! Though, they had bad record against Pakistan in Champions Trophy, considering present form of both the teams, Ind has better chances than Pak! Whoever score more runs against Pak, will become hero in India, and this is not just this time, history tells that! I hope Rohit/Dhawan/DK will surely become hero after the match! Its going to be another thriller if rain permits ;-)

All the best team India & Best of luck Pakistan!!!!

  • Samychennai on June 15, 2013, 1:57 GMT

The reason for India's success in this CT2013 is... the playing 11 has mixture of CSK and MI who are them winner and runner of IPL. All the players were in hot form for their side at IPL except Ashwin. They have carried their form to CT. Another valuable reason is Indian side has 6 best fielder inside ring which is very important to win the matches whereas others got just couple of best fielders. This will ensure that India could pull back the opposition by taking best catches, run out and saving runs even the bowlers not done well. Everybody saying that English pitches looking flat that is why India is succeeding. That is pathetic because any other team couldn't put decent total on the board other than India. That means pitch is doing something reasonable. It is not flat.

  • Remoz on June 15, 2013, 1:53 GMT

@msdhoni123 We Sri Lankans does support against India because even they are our neighbor country they voted against Sri Lanka on Geneva human rights commission when all other Most of Asian countries including Pakistan supported us.Before this I was always support India. Even in cricket BCCI are decision makers. even ICC liketo implement DRS other countries like DRS. Only BCCI refusing it. They are controlling cricket. From the day India voted against us, When Sri Lanka playing I Support Sri Lanka. When other teams playing I support the weak. When India playing I support other team.

  • PatriotsFan1 on June 15, 2013, 1:45 GMT

I am a pak fan will be good for Pak to win this with some Miracle but Team India looks very good in all areas. I will request Indian Board to loan us Dravid and Laxman since they have retired for next two years to fill our pathetic middle order and request for Ghambir and Shewag as they come close to retirement. In return 2 fast bowlers every year for as many years as they need them. We will take any 2nd Tier Indian batsman not getting a chance to play for team india. Pak batting in at it's all time lowest, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe have better batting then this load of crap. As a cricket player and fan I admire indian batting talent and their seam and spin attack is adequate for English conditions, they are the team to beat.

  • on June 15, 2013, 1:41 GMT

As an Indian fan, I see only one threat with Pakistan. He is Naser Jamshed.. He is fantastic player.. good luck to him.

  • wakaPAK on June 15, 2013, 1:32 GMT

Brace yourself. The era of Indian domination in cricket has begun. If you wondered why India with more than billion people could not produce an all-round dominant team like WI of 80's and Australia of 90's. Well, here they are. Pakistan has a history of giving tough challenges to top ranked teams, let's hope they continue that.

  • on June 15, 2013, 1:24 GMT

What is the value of line up if there is no performance. In spite of all the line up, Pakistan stands eliminated having lost both the games played thus far. Like it or not, but Indian attack even in the days of Kapil was said to be poor and unidimensional. But there are times when the same unidimensional attack did produce some great magics in 80s and then down the line. So 'Cometh the hour Cometh the man'. Lets just wait and see how the game pans out.

  • on June 15, 2013, 1:21 GMT

I am sure it will be a good battle because of two things. 1. Pakistan bowlers have more confidence against India as they performed well in the recent bilateral series. But in the same time Indian batsman look to thrash the bowling to prove their batting strength. 2. Both are very good fielding side right now and cricket world expect to see some spectacular catches.

  • HawK89 on June 15, 2013, 1:05 GMT

So what is it if you're not a Pakistan or India fan? match win or lose doesn't affect anyone else in their group. There has always been rivalry between the 2 teams, so I don't know what the title is trying to say apart from the obvious fact that is ongoing for sometime now.

  • Resultpredictor on June 15, 2013, 0:57 GMT

The match is going out to shape like this: 1. India is going to win this match easily. There is not even a 1% chance for Pakistan to win this match. 2. Pakistan will not score more than 170 whether they are batting first or second. 3. Pakistan bowlers are going to be hammered by Indian batsman. 4. Indian seamers will pick all Pakistan wickets 5. Pakistan have waste bowling, poor fielding and worst batting than India. India is going to win this heavily.

  • cool_sande on June 14, 2013, 23:40 GMT

I see people here asking for Aswins head.I think these people have gone crazy.

He bowls with a ball just five overs old on a non turning tracks, also bowls inside powerplays, right after powerplays. It is clear that he is used as a containing bowler and not a attacking option by MSD.Ashwin has a clearly defined role and he is doing it to his captain and team. Also Ashwin and Jadeja are good bowling pair. They complement each other very well.

Ashwin's bowling average is nearly equal with Kumble and Harbajan and has better strike rate than Kumble and Harbajan in both ODI,s and Tests.

Without kumble there is no Harbajan... in the same way without Ashwin there will be no wickets for SIR JADDU.Ashwin tightens the noose around the neck and SIR goes for the KILL and they complement each other very well.

@baseball-sucks - I completely agree with @msdhoni123's comments. You seriously have to be the biggest biased debater and hater over here. And what makes you say that India doesn't have great cricketing spirit? All these petty debates against Ind and SL were started by you guys during the IPL to justify your SL players poor show by saying Indian bowlers are "mediocre". So I guess that says it all who has better cricket spirit. Also you say that dhoni is a poor captain, do you know that he was named the ICC ODI and TEST captain of 2009? Your comment about Pak being favourites is not because you mean it but out of clear frustration because India is the best performer this champions trophy and has the best batting(as said by many ex-foreign cricketers and journalists) and you cant just accept that. Unlike you, many Indian fans praised SL win yesterday but you give excuses whenever India wins. That again answers your cricketing spirit. So chin up and be sportive! Cricinfo plz publish...

  • pakassasin on June 14, 2013, 22:50 GMT

Whatever the outcome of this game will be, it's just that I don't want to see three musketeers (Farhat, Malik and kamran) in batting line up anymore. They will try hard tommorow to make an impact as they are aware that it could be well and truly their last game. I sincerely hope Indian bowlers will shatter their dreams and come on top and that will be the final nail in their coffins.

  • Kumail_Asadi on June 14, 2013, 22:22 GMT

I want to tell all of you a very interesting factor. CT starts and every one thinks that Pakistan is favourite and going to play final but Pak has surprised every one and leaving from league matches. Now every one thinking that Pak will lose against India :) Guys get ready for other surprise from unpredictable Pakistan. You never know tomorrow Hafeez and Nasir will give you century stand and Pak score if batting first 350/3 :) and india losing by 200 runs.

  • PAKisTANeee786 on June 14, 2013, 22:00 GMT

I am quite surprised to see the Pakistani fans discouraged about tomorrows match and etc, well i agree to the point that if some of the "parchi" players perform tomorrow-than we will be force to see them for another year. However, when it is Pak vs Ind it is all about winning, and yes i am living in today's world. Agree, India are favorite to win tomorrow, but they might just face their toughest match in the league, cuz if Pakistan goes winless from this tournee, their fans back home are going to give them a hard time, so they might just salvage some pride. Despite, all this talk..i certainly agree that after this tournee we should make some severe changes. Should definitely, replace Malik, Kamran, Hafeez (Yes, i sad it) and Mr.Farhat with- M.Rizwan (WK), Fawad Alam (lefty middle order batsmen), Ahmed Shahzad to open with Babar Azam, with Nasir coming one down. Hafeez should remember that his priority is his batting and not bowling, we can replace his bowling with any individual.

even when we were playing against south africa we played 176 dot balls, almost 30 overs and we were playing against west indies we played 191 dot balls, almost 32 overs. so were pakistanies playing a one day game or a test....thats why pakistanis are disappointed,

  • maria_01 on June 14, 2013, 21:47 GMT

i tell you boys why pakistani fans are so much disappointed. yes its nothing to worry about if one team looses, as when two team plays, one has to loose and one has to win....and best side can or may loose 10 matches in a row when they have bad time....we are disappointed because pakistan is not showing any fighting spirit..atleast they show some fighting spirit while playing as they are representing Pakistan----the country who remained world champions and considered as well established cricketing nation....its not to worry about defeats but fighting spirit must be there....the match should not be one sided....

...even at the end of 25th over Pak score was just 75....2 runs per over....is this called fighting spirit....really i was shocked to see Pak batting performance in these 2 odi's 167 and 170....common Pakistan...pls play with your hearts and give your best...then if you loose we dont criticize you....

  • Ajayvs on June 14, 2013, 21:42 GMT

Really disappointed with the selection of the squad . You need match winners like afrdi , razzaq , younis! And more aggression from players like imran nazir , umar akmal and ahmed shezad . Players like farhat , asad shafiq umar amin are useless, they only playing for them selves , not for the team, boring cricket tick tock tick tock!! Am going tmro to watch the game at edgbaston! Don't see pakistan winning this!

If Pakistan looses it will be good for them .Look what India did when they started loosing got rid of Gambhir,Yuvi,Sehwag, Zaheer,Harbajan. We got all new faces now and they are producing results. I actually think the loose will benefit Pakistan more.

  • Rubic on June 14, 2013, 21:33 GMT

  • msdhoni123 on June 14, 2013, 21:21 GMT

@baseballsucks your comments always liven up my day. Seriously I don't know what country you support but they got to be doing very bad in cricket. Because one wouldn't just try and hate India unless they are jealous of them. Lets be honest there is no stopping Indian batting line up. What other line up in the world could have gone from 55/5 to over 300. Every team would crumble under pressure. I admit we don't have the best bowling line up in the world. But tell me one team in world cricket right now whos got the best bowling lining up and bowling line up, I guess no one apart from the great Australian Team which no longer exists. Plus Indian got the best fielding in the world too which makes up for the average bowling and with this average bowling pakistan failed to chase down 152 last time the met. So I actually think you are jealous of how India are superior to whatever your country your supporting. You keep hating we keep winning mate and thanks for the jokes you post every day.

3 off spinners n 3 left arm fast bowlers played last 2 games, I don`t understand why Asad ali n Asad Shafiq isn`t playing, Hope fully both play a vital role tomorrow!!!

    Best wishes for both sides!!!

Dhoni 11 is in good touch!!! India is favorite for the contest!!! Surely they will remove the label of chokers!!!

  • Nampally on June 14, 2013, 21:15 GMT

Although Pakistan has strong bowling, their batting is poor. I am sure Pakistan are hoping that Junaid will do his trick once more! But the Indian batting has faced better bowlers than Junaid & Irfan in this tourney. Also the Indian bowling is much improved with 2 good spinners + acceptable Seamers- who are very uneconomical. Of course Pakistan has both seamers & Spinners who are world class. Fortubnately, India has good openers followed by an equally good middle order & 2 of the best finishers in the ODI. The only snag is will India play their full team or rest some of their regulars!. Also the weather is so unpredictable, that the game might be abandoned. Also this game does not impact on the playoff standings. It is a formality to complete the schedule. But Crowd will think otherwise!.

  • on June 14, 2013, 21:12 GMT

    @ Abdullah Khan:

Afridi is a loose cannon - and a tried and tested failure as a batsman. His bowling has come on leaps and bounds, but why would you make a captain out of a man who isnt even assured a place in the team?

Misbah is a good leader. Educated and erudite, he is a calming influence. As for tomorrow, India have form going with them - but who knows.

  • Jda123 on June 14, 2013, 21:06 GMT

    Interesting match.

Farhat, Malik, Kamran departure should happen now whatever the outcome of this game even if they do score centuries which I doubt.

Hafeez people say should be the ODI captain but really?

    His typical innings = 5, 34, 22, 86, 14,0

    No consistency at all.

  • on June 14, 2013, 20:58 GMT

Please let me summarize Pakistan's batting scenario in the following sentences of one of my countryman, Abdullah Khan, who posted this a while ago. He says,"Pakistan's problem is mindset. Misbah is a submissive personality who more suites to PCB than team. He is there only because he pleases his bosses at PCB. We need Afridi as a captain to bring the team out of chaos once again. Only Afridi is the main who can agressively lead the team with a positive mind".

This is not just Mr Abdullah's ideology but Pakistan's ideology. Afridi after his series of several disappointing innings and world record of ducks is still hailed and preferred over Misbah's stability and calmness. If Afridi had played against Misbah, the total would not have reached 130 against West Indies or 164 against South Africa. Every player in Pakistan's team is playing like Afridi. The only man standing along with Nasir is Misbah and that sums it all. Pakistanis need to learn and play according to the situation. Period

  • sdpervez on June 14, 2013, 20:56 GMT

I am a Pakistani and a die hard Pakistani Cricket fan but this match I truly want India to win, because somehow if Pakistan wins everything will be swept under the carpet and the same issue will prevail, Pakistan needs a major shakeup in the batting department, for how long will the pakistani team depend on their bowling. i just hope they loose to India and go home to face the music and lose some dead weight in the lineup, and god forbid if the likes of Imran Farhat, Shoaib Malik or Kamran Akmal fire in the one game like they have always done whenever they were under the axe I hope PCB does not use that as an excuse to persist with them.

  • kc69 on June 14, 2013, 20:51 GMT

Yes India and Pakistan are two of the most contrasting teams of this tournament. India has a top class batting lineup whereas Pakistan have a equally top class bowling lineup but the real clash will be between the other 2 factors where Pakistan's Batting has looked worse than Indian Bowling. However India have an advantage of being the better fielding side. Assessment of the pitch tomorrow and the toss will be very crucial for tomorrow's match, Expecting a thriller.

  • vxttemp on June 14, 2013, 20:49 GMT

I'm not sure why Pak fans are so much discouraged. It happens sometimes. India couldn't reach semis in the last T20. I agree with them on some points about players like Farhat and Malik. I'm not sure why they are not picking Imran Nazir. He and Shikar are of similar mould(Shikar is justifying his talent now)

  • Baseball-Sucks on June 14, 2013, 20:42 GMT

Pakistan are favorite for this match due to their way superior bowling attack. They've got a fantastic pace attack led by Juanid Khan n an excellent spin attack by Ajmal n Hafeez. Their batsmen will find it very easy to deal with the average Indian bowling attack. And they've got a great cricketing spirit unlike their opposition. So It should be like a walk in the park for Pakistan to bag this one. Hoping for massive Pakistan win tomorrow. G'luck !!!!!

  • on June 14, 2013, 20:32 GMT

I am a pakistani and i'm all for supporting my team but come on! India is clearly the better team here with no comparison to pakistan. I was watching old games of the previous decade and it was so refreshing to watch good batsmen like younis khan,Inzi,Yousuf etc..They were classy. We dont got class anymore!Where are the batsmen like Miandad,Inzi,Younis and Yousuf who scored runs, took the team out of trouble and always gave a fight atleast.Umar Akmal is clearly the most talented batsman that pakistan have gotten in the last 10 years,But he wasnt selected because Umar Amin was selected.Shoaib Malik's cricketing career is obviously over.Imran Farhat is not talented enough to play in the international team.Misbah's feet are in the grave almost.Kamran Akmal is exactly like afridi who used to win one game out of every one hundred, and used to lose the rest of the 99 games for pakistan. Azhar Ali,Asad Shafiq,Umar Akmal,Nasir Jamshed and Fawad Alam. These are clearly Pakistan's future..

  • BBrianBlair on June 14, 2013, 19:49 GMT

India should try out Amit Mishra, Irfan Pathan and Vinay Kumar in place of Ashwin, Ishant and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in this match to test their bench strength and honestly I don't believe that they would perform any worse since the Indian bowling has been average in this tournament so far.

As for Pakistan, the fact that Shoaib Malik hasn't scored a half century in ODIs since 2009 says all about what is wrong with their team. Hope he does well though bcoz he is a match winner when he scores.

  • asim229 on June 14, 2013, 19:49 GMT

I kind of disagree with the people who thinks that there is no batting talent in pakistan and these players apart from misbah should be replaced. I think this batting problems have something to do with the defensive and negative mentality of Misbah. I think Kamran akmal, Imran farhat, Umar amin, Nasir jamshed and others are very talented players and there are many more in the reserves but the negative personality of misbah is having bad affect on them and then he becomes the hero by scoring that sluggish fifty in a losing cause. I think pakistan needs to find a young aggressive captain ASAP just like SA appointed Graeme Smith directly as a captain.

  • bhavesh__j on June 14, 2013, 19:48 GMT

that we have rivalry in everything. They say our rivalry in Cricket match is the highest. But I do not agree. If there is really rivalry then why most of us do not really feel happy when you are eliminated from the group. We instead appreciate and envy the best bowling stock that you have. For those who thinks that Saturday's match will be a "dead rubber" then "hello" are we talking about "Ind-Pak match" and "dead rubber". Those two phrases can't go well together. I look forward to the biggest entertainment of the tournament which will be on Saturday. It would also be the real test for the Indian batting power against the best bowling attack in the tournament and the other way around. Can't wait any more

Pakistan still live in the era when beating india was an ultimate thing whereas India has moved on. Pakistan, therefore, are always under pressure against India in important games. Pakistan will be playing to save some faces here and will be under alot of pressure again tomorrow. India is playing with flair, unlike Pakistan, and will be firm favorites to win this match.

  • DILEEPMJOHN on June 14, 2013, 19:39 GMT

With South Africa qualified now to Semis with only 3 points, India could afford to play freely as they know no matter how big their loss margin is, if at all that happens, they will still be on top of group. Indian batting order looks settled and all except Raina is in excellent form in England. Hope Raina makes most of his opportunity in the match against Pak. Coming to the bowling, death bowling is a serious issue for India.Pacers have to realise that waist high bouncers or length bowls will go for runs and should try to bowl yorkers and slower ones. They have to realise that even if the yorkers are gone wrong, low height full tosses are never easy to put away. It may not be a high scoring match because of slow pitch and bowling strength of Pak.But having said that an inform Indian Batsman can still score 300 against any opposition in any pitch under current form. Jai Ho.

I'm missing Shahid Afridi a lot

  • on June 14, 2013, 19:23 GMT

India is far better side and pakistan batting specially is far below the standard of club cricket in india. They are afraid of every thing and cant play shorts outside 30 yard circle anf pakistani bowlers will be hammered every side of the boundary.

  • ReverseSweepIndia on June 14, 2013, 19:19 GMT

it is never between Indian bats and Par k bowlers. Pak bowlers always has been best or among the best while same hold true for Indian bats. Comparison is between Indian bowlers and Pak batters. Whenever Pak batters has been just above average, they had won. Pre 2000 era is proof of that. Right now its Indian bowling which is just above average, Bhuvi doing just good, Umesh though hammered but still get wickets (earlier it was just hammering for 0s for other bowlers), Ashwin overrated, but still doing more than average, Jadeja good and better than Hafeez as whole package. I feel for Pak bowlers, they are best and putting all their heart just to get ruined by some club level batting. Why don't you bring Fawad Alam instead of Shoib, he though not a 35 b all 50, but solid 50 ball 50 kind of player and would have helped you guys put 250 on board which will help you win 90% of the games. Good luck to both teams..

  • akaamir on June 14, 2013, 19:14 GMT

As Indian fan i hope & wish India won when considering its IND vs PAK , but when i look at point table India hasn't lost any matches and its history most of time whenever India won the tournament India had lost at least one match in league ... and that's why one match played two time with no Result In ICC Champ 2002 Final

  • on June 14, 2013, 19:08 GMT

Complete nonsense, some of the comments here. Pakistan does not hold ANY PSYCHOLOGICAL pressure over India. None whatsoever. This is not the old Indian team of the 90s that went into matches sweating. Honestly, they don't care who the opposition is. They play their brand of cricket, which is pretty fearless and which is why they have been winning far more than in previous decades.

This is what India should do. Rest Ishant and try out some of the others but only in the bowling line-up. The batting is set and should not be played around with. I think India's going to go out there and enjoy themselves.

Frankly, it is OK even if India loses. Winning the trophy is what counts and they should focus on that.

  • on June 14, 2013, 18:23 GMT

i dont think there is any thing like Dead rubber between these 2. Last time during pak visit, pak already won the series but the intensity of players, fans were high in last as well. Full packed house. Yes india has won all during worldcups. and pakistan won both times in CT. however, i dont think past matters much. its all about that day.

Surely india will not want to break wining momentum, & may be this is the tougher bowling examination they will get in group stage. & a loss always bring questions out which india may not want. & pakistan will also try to win atleast 1 game. winless tour may not be a best situation.

Imran should be dropped with only available batsman Asad in ( such poor selection they dont have any options) & kamran to open.

India look well set to win CT. batting really firing. bowlers doing ok to balance batting. With pakistan misfiring batting i think india are favorite for this game.

weather forecast also not that good.

  • Jadejafan on June 14, 2013, 18:07 GMT

There's no such thing as a dead rubber game in Cricket anymore. Though true both these teams know their fate in the final ICC Trophy, however there are ranking points still to gain and lose for both teams. India being number 1, a loss to Pakistan will give teams ranked 2 and 3 to gain up on them. Some may argue i.e. Pakistan fans that "So what if Pakistan win that game, its not like we will come anywhere near close to the top" - true but because Pakistan had such a unfortunate tournament, you can salvage a lot of pride by beating a close rival and rebuild and plan for the best future for the Pakistan team because right now since Pakistan been knocked out, there are problems so this so called "dead rubber" can be the perfect game to resurrect Pakistan Cricket for the better and build on from there and start fresh and forget about the ICC Trophy which let's be honest, is a meaningless tournament anyway. Its a start anyway....so there is hope...

I'm an Indian fan and I have seen Pakistan's Cricket as well. I think Pakistan fans shouldn't lose heart. The main problem of Pakistan is that their batsman don't play fearless cricket. Also, they should know when to play what kind of a stroke. Also, the selection has to be correct. There's nothing wrong with Pakistani bowling, that would fire on most counts. They should remove some players like Malik,Kamran,Farhat and give youngsters some chance[Guys who perform in domestic] and give them good amount of game and not just drop them after 1 series failure. See the change in the Indian team. Big names like Sehwag,Yuvraj,Bhajji aren't there because they were not performing. Look at how confident Indian youngsters are,the kind of fielding set up we have now. There's no reason Pakistan can't do the same. Identify the correct youngsters, groom them and give them confidence, then you'll see the difference. For me,in the batting line up,retain Jamshed and Misbah. Rest has to be seriously looked at

  • Kapeel on June 14, 2013, 17:58 GMT

I think India should give chance to Vinay Kumar to see whether he can solve India's death bowling problem ! If he performs well he can replace Ishant Sharma !

  • chakay-pay-chaka on June 14, 2013, 17:52 GMT

Despite their terrible batting, Pakistan will probably still win if they win the toss & bat firs. Batting first is a huge advantage on that slow wicket - only 4 instances of a team chasing a score >235 succesfully & that says it all!! I don't think a win will prevent the culling of the batting order though which is just as well. No one will forget the ignominy of losing in the preliminary stages.

  • Captain_Tuk_Tuk on June 14, 2013, 17:32 GMT

I personally believe that India will have an advantage in tomorrow's read rubber as they got nothing to lose. They lost all of the Champion's Trophy encounters against Pakistan, they've already qualified to the semis and played some great cricket, their fans are happy with their performance. For Pakistan, there are lots of question-marks on their below par performance, question-marks on Misbah's selection and his decisions of dropping senior players. Question-marks on Hafeez, K.Akmal and Malik's performance and their places in the team, so if Pakistan loose they'll lose everything while India have nothing to lose so they'll have the mental advantage and also they played some great cricket my money is on India.

  • Afzaal999 on June 14, 2013, 17:29 GMT

As usual this is Pakistan team. Have all the potential, ability and talent. But don't want to show. Why? Because when the people at "high ups" wants to get rid of any Captain or a "player" the whole team will act strange. My point is why they don't fight on the table instead they choose ground and look only the country bad. Look like it is now Misbah time just like Shahid Afridi at 2011 World Cup. Look at the history of each big events except for few occasions there was always a drama, surprises and stories

  • zaf100 on June 14, 2013, 17:26 GMT

Tomorrow India vs Pakistan is final without final. Whatever happens before means nothing to both teams because no body wants to lose against each other. On current form India definitely have an edge over Pakistan but psychologically Pakistan have an advantage over India because recently Pakistan beat India in India plus they have never lost against India in champions trophy. If both teams play to their potential it will be a treat for all the fans in the ground and billions watching all over the world on TV. Hope weather stays fine for the whole duration of the match. Count down begins can't wait. Good luck Pakistan go and express yourself and play fearless cricket. :-)

  • phunny_game on June 14, 2013, 17:18 GMT

India have played the best cricket from all the teams, but i am not sure if they can keep doing that. Though i am an Indian fan, i feel Pakistan might win tomorrow, since the Indian youngsters might be a bit overawed by the success, and that can lead to overconfidence and complacency. If they can keep their heads in the right place and win this, i will surely admit that they capable of winning the trophy and i hope they do... No changes in the team suggested since these lads have won two games in a row, they are young and they need to be assured of a place in the team. They should not live in a fear that someone might rob them off their place by performing in this match. This will also keep the momentum going...

  • on June 14, 2013, 16:47 GMT

A dead rubber certainly is India is through Pakistan's out but Pakistan can and particularly Misbah can salvage something registering a win against the strongest team. Now Misbah should surely get the captaincy taken away as Pakistan have been eliminated in the group stage such a tournament was good enough for any team to deliver the the atmosphere the opening ceremony but not Pakistan..............................................

  • KingofSwag on June 14, 2013, 16:42 GMT

India and Pakistan should make changesto their teams for different reasons.

India: To see what they have and what their replacements can do if they are needed.

Pakistan: To see if their replacements are good enough to handle different conditions.

India do deserve to win this tournament based on all-round performances. No other side has performed as well as this team has. I feel that the Indian glory days are finally here! (This is all coming from an Indian fan). Best of Luck to the Indian team.

  • rimx12 on June 14, 2013, 16:38 GMT

Agree IndvsPak in never a dead rubber but there is not much enthusiasm related to ths match after such bad performance by Pak they don't deserve to win this match wonder if any how they win then the players currently loosing Pak will hav another reason to survive with the team which is not gud for the longterm of the team. We should get rid of these mediocre players asap who always sink Pak in big tournaments. May the best team win.

  • Hate.ME on June 14, 2013, 16:31 GMT

All the very Best to both Indian and Pakistan teams.

I'm sure we will get to see new faces in Pakistan line-up especially in bowling dept.. Excited to see new bowling talents !

Ind may rest Ashwin and Bhuvi and try Mishra and Irfan Pathan. Irfan generally performs better against Pakistan. And it will interesting to see if Irfan justifies his selection.

    Good luck !

  • on June 14, 2013, 16:25 GMT

One of the deciding factors of the match must be the fielding. India have a formidable inner ring of Raina, Jadeja, Kohli, Rohit and Dinesh Karthik. Dhoni is good behind the stumps and Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar, Ishant and Umesh are adequate in the deep as well. Only Ashwin is average. Let us hope they remember that ..

  • SaadRocx on June 14, 2013, 16:23 GMT

I think india should beat pak in this match, even though im a pakistani (but it wud be blessing in disguise for us and leave selectors to get rid of umer amin, imranfarhat, shoab malik, kamran akmal etc. once and forever ) the wounds of pathetic display in first 2 games should never hide if they win this one )...if they win media and nation will forget how miserably they failed in this tournament, which should never happen,we need to make some serious changes in our future team.!!!

  • maria_01 on June 14, 2013, 16:00 GMT

no doubt in it that india is the most deserving team to lift CT 2013 trophy, most consistent batting line up and play as a unit.. i will watch Pak vs ind match only for seeing that in actual Pak bowling is good or is overrated, because playing against india will actually tell us about our bowling, as they are the giants of batting, if pak bowlers perform well against india, then they will be real lions of bowling, and i wish india bat first against Pakistan because if Pakistan will bat first, then they will not progress beyond 150, and aim of seeing match will go in vain :( finally i have absolutely no hope from Pak batting line up, totally crap, gudluck Pakistan

  • spellbinder76 on June 14, 2013, 15:58 GMT

    Opening batsman:

    1. South Africa: Hashim Amla 2. India: Dhavan 3. England: Alister Cook 4. Australia: Shane Watson 5. Newzeland: Guptell 6. West Indies: Chris Gale 7. Sri-Lanka: Dilshan 8. Pakistan: Imran Farhat

    Middle order batsman:

    1. South Africa: AB de Villiers 2. Sri-Lanka: Sangakarra or Jayawardhana 3. Australia: Michael Clarke 4. Newzeland: Ross Taylor, 5. India: Dinesh Karthik or Virat Kohli, 6. Pakistan: Shoaib Malik

You can carry out your own comparison for batsman # 3 and 6.

  • on June 14, 2013, 15:57 GMT

India v Pak, it can't get better than this in cricket, can it? Pakistan is too good a side to lose all 3 games in a league phase and India would do well play without pressure, that's what has helped them until now. Go boys in blue and green, but we all would do well to remember, behind all the animosity, political games and pressure of playing each other, at the end of the day- it's just a game!

  • Stark62 on June 14, 2013, 15:41 GMT

India have already won and we don't need to see the action either!!

The shameless batsmen will let down the bowlers again and India with their hot form will win comfortably.

The playing 11 should be: Nasir, Wahab (pinch-hitter), Hafeez, Misbah, Shafiq (better than Amin but both still rubbish), Malik (plays well against Ind), Kamran, Ajmal/Rehman, Asad Ali, Ehsan and Irfan.

Drop Junaid and Farhat to give the likes of Ehsan and Asad Ali a chance, plus you might as well rest Ajmal.

  • Unmesh_cric on June 14, 2013, 15:24 GMT

India Vs Pakistan is never a dead rubber (just ask anybody on the street from India or Pakistan). No matter what sort of form both teams are before they clash with each other, more often than not the game turns out to be a nail-biter. All the best to both the teams..bring on the entertainment!!

  • KaptainKool on June 14, 2013, 15:22 GMT

Its time to try out Mishra in place of Ashwin and Pathan in place of Jadeja just to finalize the final 11 ahead of the Semifinal clash. ATB team India! Go for the kill :)

  • on June 14, 2013, 15:15 GMT

After this series Malik hafeez farhat and kamran should be dropped for good. Our batting is very weak except Misbah i would add another bowler to make bowling even more strong. Though Kamran is a big failure i would prompt him at number 3 while shafiq a solid player can help misbah build parternship 1 hafeez 2 Nasir 3 Kamran 4 Misbah 5 Shafiq 6 Malik 7 riyaz 8 ajmal 9 junaid 10 Asad 11 Irfan

  • BBJS on June 14, 2013, 15:11 GMT

  • on June 14, 2013, 15:09 GMT

Lesson Learnt for the organizers and tournament fixture setters: Never keep indo-pak clash too early or too late otherwise you might gonna suffer. Positively, Pak v Ind match should have been second for each side not the third in this CT.

  • Kashi0127 on June 14, 2013, 15:03 GMT

India should think of bringing in Vinay Kumar, Irfan Pathan and Amit Mishra into the game. They are not there for sight seeing! For one they will get their chance and also none of the bowlers Bhuvanesh Kumar, Umesh Yadav , Ashwin have done anything extraordinary. Knowing what you have in your kitty is good got semi finals

  • zalmaypk on June 14, 2013, 15:00 GMT

india is clearly on top as thier bating is top class while Pakistan team selection on relation base and on no merit base...

  • on June 14, 2013, 14:59 GMT

Pakistan please give us something to remember, something to cherish for. The team has no pressure and the same for India, they are already through to the Semis and now targeting the Finals, all the best to the Indian team, if they win this champions trophy, i would be glad because they have shown some tremendous pressure. All the best to both the teams :)

  • ProdigyA on June 14, 2013, 14:59 GMT

I think India should experiment with the leg spinner Amit Mishra in place of Ishant or Yadav. It would be good to try and see how he performs as these pitches are becoming more spin friendly.

For me most important aspect of this game that there is no pressure on both teams to have an impact on the points table. This will allow both team to play freely. India wants to keep the winning streak whereas Pakistan would like to have a win to leave UK on positive note. I'm looking for a exciting game of cricket. Good luck to both teams.
