Big picture

There was a time when all an out-of-form Pakistan cricketer needed to do was turn up against India, and he would magically regain his touch. How India will be hoping they can do some of that when they play Pakistan in their middle Super Eight match on Sunday.

Confused, low on confidence, playing as if with the weight of the world on their shoulders, India find themselves in a tight corner. Their trusted players are not performing, and some of the reserves provided by the selectors are not good enough. And for the first time there are questions around the captain's place in the side: he strikes at 110 runs per 100 balls, has never scored a T20I fifty, and twice in India's three last defeats he has hurt the side's momentum, failing to score a run a ball in the latter half of the innings. One more defeat, and India won't even have a backdoor entry left after their massive negative run-rate.

India do seem to have turned the tables from the time Pakistan used to dominate this "rivalry". Since the start of 2006, India have won 15 and lost eight internationals against Pakistan, but still trail the head-to-head 58 to 81. Pakistan, though, will be feeling good about their game after having pulled off an improbable win over South Africa. And their bowlers might not have had the best of tournaments until Friday, but they do remain a threat. They will also know from first-hand experience during the warm-up game that Indian bowlers can be bossed when put under the slightest of pumps.

Pakistan have a statistic to set right, though: they have never beaten India in any 50-over or 20-over World Cup match.

Form guide (completed matches, most recent first)

Pakistan WWWLW

Watch out for

Nasir Jamshed scored a fine century the last time Pakistan played India, but was denied a win by a superlative 183 from Virat Kohli. The two are the most promising young batting talents from the respective countries, both have been batting at No. 3 so far, and hold the key to a solid innings for their side.

India's opening - whether with the bat or with the ball - is now a matter of major speculation after the Irfan Pathan experiment with the bat and the R Ashwin one with the ball. Surely Irfan has got to get the new ball if he is to be used as a bowler? And surely India must want their specialist batsmen to get most of the overs?

Umar Gul may have won the previous match with the bat, but where has Gul the yorker-bowler disappeared? In 10 T20 matches this year, Gul has conceded runs at 8.4 an over, as opposed to an impressive career economy-rate of 6.88.

Team news

After the England match, Dhoni said he had problems of plenty at his hand. Less than 35 overs of cricket later, he has plenty of problems. Does he stand by his decision of keeping Virender Sehwag out and playing five bowlers? Does he look at the place of Yuvraj Singh and Rohit Sharma in that middle order? Will Manoj Tiwary ever get to play a live game? What does he do with an under-performing Zaheer Khan? What does he do with his own form? Only one thing might be certain at this time: Piyush Chawla's yet other, inexplicable, comeback might have ended.

India (probable): 1 Virender Sehwag, 2 Gautam Gambhir, 3 Virat Kohli, 4 Yuvraj Singh, 5 Suresh Raina, 6 Rohit Sharma/Manoj Tiwary, 7 MS Dhoni (capt. & wk), 8 Irfan Pathan, 9 R Ashwin, 10 Harbhajan Singh, 11 Zaheer Khan

Pakistan will be questioning Shahid Afridi's utility as a bowler who bats at No. 7. He has done his bit with the ball so far. He is the only Pakistan bowler other than Saeed Ajmal to have bowled all his overs in every match so far, and has conceded runs at only 6.33 an over. That should be enough to keep his place in the XI, but his six-or-nothing batting at No. 7 will remain a cause for worry.

Pakistan (probable) 1 Mohammad Hafeez (capt.), 2 Imran Nazir, 3 Nasir Jamshed, 4 Kamran Akmal (wk), 5 Shoaib Malik, 6 Umar Akmal, 7 Shahid Afridi, 8 Umar Gul, 9 Yasir Arafat, 10 Saeed Ajmal, 11 Raza Hasan.

Pitch and conditions

Conditions at the R Premadasa Stadium now present an interesting dilemma. The curator has now begun to leave the pitch dry, which should make you want to bat first. However, with the ever-present threat of the rain you also want to exploit the Duckworth-Lewis anomaly and avoid the wet outfield.

Stats and trivia

  • Shoaib Malik loves playing India. His overall international average is 31.67 over 282 matches, but in 38 matches against India he has scored four of those nine centuries and has averaged 46.41. In an unrelated incident he has married an Indian, tennis player Sania Mirza.
  • Pakistan and India have never played each other in a T20 international outside the World Twenty20.

"For me I think Virender Sehwag can be very dangerous. I hope he'll play the next two games. I think it won't be easy to play the next two games without him."
    Suresh Raina to BBC

"When we play India there is lot of pressure because our people always want us to win. The same is the case in India, so there will be pressure on both teams."
Umar Gul hints at implications other than just progression in the tournament whenever Pakistan play India

ashwin and harbhajn can bat well, zaheer is not in his best of forms......irfan and zaheer must open the owling...if they get eary would be easir to ashwin and bhajji....16 overs for indians are 4 overs they have to mange somehow using yuvraj raina..they are missingjadeja...he was given chances in not india sl where the boundaries are short and pitch supports turn......dinda is a rubbish.....balaji..i dont think can perform anymore..............som,tthe man concern for india is thir bowling,if indian perfect batting is backed up with only 50 % of bowling, nobody can restrict india to win title

CMON INDIA PLZ WIN! it bare me facing abuse from my pakistani friends :D

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 23:55 GMT)

now I am 24, but at ages 7-12 when an indo pak clash happened I used get feared. Pakistan had a clear upper hand. Pak used to bat first and score 270 and India stumble in chase.this used to happen frequently. But after kargil war, from 2003wc India are having the upper hand over Pakistan. My favourite indo pak match is still that kanitkar boundary if saqlain at Dhaka, hope atleast some people here have seen that match

Posted by ALA1 on (September 29, 2012, 23:53 GMT)

Afridi scored 52 runs two or three innings before. He is a bowling allrounder and can turn the game with bat, bowl and even fielding. He should play. Razzaq should play in place of Raza Hassan as Indians play spin well and we already have 3 or 4 spinners. Hope to see a good match and those indians who are saying that Pakistan has never beaten them in a World cup, IA tomorrow your wait will end. And do remember 81-58 international record of Indo PAk matches in Pakistan's favour.

Between India and Pakistan it is oten a psychological game relished by by partisan supporters. Perhaps it makes it more interesting. Beyond that, team to team they enjoy good off field relations. For now, Sehwag, once the best opener in the world who is performing may suddenlty return to make the difference in this match.

I want pak to win, but it would be foolish to write off India. For one they have a point to prove, and they are a top class team. I strongly feel Raza Hassan should not play tomorrow, as he is very young (in terms of cricketing experience as well as age) and might not be ready for taking part in such a high profile match. Instead, bring in Abdul Razzaq, adding depth to the batting and another seam bowling option. We shouldnt miss Raza too much since shoaib malik is also an option. If Viru does play, it is imperative to get him early as he loves thrashing pakistan. On the same note, Malik can be brought up the order because his average increases significantly against india. Pakistan has a better win/loss ratio overall against India, however indian team of recent has shortened that gap significantly as well as having the upper hand in world cup games. I have full faith that this pakistani team can widen that gap once again, and it would surely help in m amir and junaid khan are in th pic

@ahmedjawwad4u. I think u are probably forgetting about pakistans record against india in all head tohead mayches. Dont be selective. In tworld cup... non world cup... away or at home.... in that format..... Pakistan has beaten india more times .

Many Pakistan Fans are already writing off India. India played badly against the Aussies. But that was another day. Tomorrow will be a new day. India has enough batting to score over 200, if Sehwag fires 100%. He generally plays well against Pakistan. So don't be surprised to see Sehwag determined not to throw away his wkt. Sehwag in full flight is a bowlers' Nightmare. Pakistan batting is poor and if India get their teeth into the game they can dismiss the Pakistan team cheaply. T 20 is a format in which a team on a particular day can beat any other team. It was not India's day vs. the Aussies. Hopefully they will bounce back. There is no other guy better suited to lead the charge than Sehwag. Kohli, Tiwary & Raina will be all backing Sehwag. Yuvraj is yet to show his power & don't be surprised if he does rise up like he hit Broad for 6 sixers in one over!. It is a do or die game for India whilst it is not that crucial to pakistan even if they lose. Good Luck Dhoni & India. Go for it!

India will win and Pak beat Aus and SA beat Aus So win win situation for India and PakistN. Wait for grand Finale after 2007

Hafeez should out afridi and abdul razzaq should be in. A.R is more experienced than Afridi. His Bowling and Batting is much better than Afridi. Afridi disappointed the nation due to his current performance. Good luck Pak.

I am from Pakistan, predict Indian win in this match, though I wish Pakistan to win and my prediction to go wrong. With the jinx of Pakistan never winning against India in any world cup fixture rules out the possibility for Pakistan win. By any expectation Indian team is under tremendous pressure due to ...... being on the verge of elimination if losing this game, playing very poorly and losing to Australia by huge margin, shadow of doubts over Dhoni captaincy and playing against arch rival - all these bring lot of weights over Dhoni shoulders before the kick off. Good luck to both teams and let cricket be the winner by playing close finish hard fought match. Hasan Raza and Kamran Akmal will be key players if Pakistan wins.

ever since i started following cricket on cricinfo i have noticed that so many nations support pakistan as their second favourites. not only they support us as their second favourites but infact they show so much enthusiasm for Pakistan that its unbelievable. all my friends n brothers n sisters from Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri lanka and anywhere else, i want to thank u all on behalf of whole Pakistani nation and we r truely grateful. and i assure u that feelings r mutual and whenever international cricket returns to Pakistan and ur teams visit us , we will do our best to make them feel at home. ur teams wont b short of support here. and i expect all Pakistanis to keep this support in mind when these teams visit Pakistan.

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 21:41 GMT)

Pakistan will be better off making one or may be two changes and bringing in M. Sami for Raza Hassan, may Razzaq for Yasir Arafat. Thus using: 1. I. Nazir, 2. M. Hafeez, 3. N. Jamshed, 4. K. Akmal, 5. U. Akmal, 6. S. Malik, 7. S. Afridi, 8. Y. Arafat/Razzaq, 9. M. Sami, 10. U Gul, 11. Sa Ajmal.

We all saw India weekness against quality fast bowling, so Pakistan should utilize Sami pace alongside Gul and Arafat/Razzaq, plus option of four spin bowlers in Ajmal, Afridi, Hafeed and Malik.

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 21:30 GMT)

it seems like for srilankans sake pakistan should win for there consolation vs india. Ok for me india should win this match and pakistan team wins the wc.

India will win and virat is the man to do it

Posted by The_big_j on (September 29, 2012, 20:54 GMT)

Hafeez should play his cards right and bring in Mohd Sami. India plays spin VERY WELL forget afridi, ajmal is not the same ajmal against this batting line up and raza hasan is going to be attacked. Pakistan should go in with Moh'd Sami his pace along with Umar Gul's accuracy (let's hope he's accurate tomorrow) can really off balance indian batsman as we saw against the Australia. BE BRAVE HAFEEZ THIS MOVE CAN WIN YOU THE MATCH EASILY.

Posted by mhz91 on (September 29, 2012, 20:34 GMT)

lol at indians who are calculating the chances of pak to qaulify while their own team is indanger of not winning even a game :D .....pak india match will be a one sided match .....leave ajmal india will not be able to play raza hassan ... pak spin trio will be difficult for them to handle ....and also hafeez bowls well nowadays ...

Posted by ProdigyA on (September 29, 2012, 20:21 GMT)

Pak puts itself under too much pressure against India while Indian team has experience and maturity of handling such pressure. So my money on India.

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 20:16 GMT)

Two things favor Pakistan's chances: India's current form and the theory of probablity favors Pak because so far India has won all games against Pak.

Posted by ahmedjawwad4u on (September 29, 2012, 20:06 GMT)

This is not a world cup. This is world T20. So this match does not count toward our proud world cup record against Pakistan. Even if we lose this match, we will still be winners in all world cup head-to-heads

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 19:52 GMT)

We'd never forget how Pak supported SL 12 years ago in Lahore Even-though its been 12 years. So for that & many other reasons SL fans will definitely support Pakistan.knock em out please.:D

If Sehwag play tomorrow's match I bet India will win. He has best of the record against Pak. Remember his 300+ in Multan. Pak team looks better now and are favorites for this match.

Another cracker coming up! These sides always provide massive entertainment and throw prediction stats out the window when they meet. Truth of the matter is, nothing motivates the immensely talented cricketers in both sides to really bring out their A-game other than a match up like this. And a majority of encounters between these two end up becoming nail-biting classics! Analysis wise, Pakistan should rest Raza Hassan and keep him as a kind of weapon for the next game as for most teams he is a surprise package and is very good. Against Saffers his bowling was supreme. Indian's may catch him out though and wreck his confidence. Chachu is in good form and Lala needs to come good, now is the ultimate stage to silence the naysayers. He is nowhere close to previous form of the glory days. Guldozer needs to focus a lot on his bowling. He is getting frustrated and clever batsmen are using his pace. He needs to rediscover. For Raza, my gut says bring the Razzler. Experience may pay off!

India always get complacent when they cruise to an easy victory i.e. against England. For match vs Pak, I think they will play out of their skins to pose a serious challenge. My money is on India.

Posted by Imranghumman on (September 29, 2012, 18:59 GMT)

India is more powerful team, they have strong players who always perform against Pakistan when their team is down and loosing to others and then they get confidence onward. The same case will be tomorrow. They will be too good for Pakistan. Though I want to see Pakistan win, but that does not mean we should negate the reality. Reality we all know that India can exert more pressure than Pakistan in big tournaments.

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 18:52 GMT)

My playing XI against India: M.Hafeez(C) Imran Nazir Nasir Jamshed Kamran Akmal(Wk) Shoaib Malik Umar Akmal Shahid Afridi Yasir Arafat Abdul Razzqa Umar Gul Saeed Ajmal

No doubt Raza Hasan is so talented bowler but Indian overrated batsmen can attack spinner so its much better to introduce old experience all rounder razzaq who can contribute with both ball and bats,Plz BoOm BoOm need to consider single, double and Four not only SIX all the best pakistan.we need huge victory to pack up Overrated less talented india.india fragile bowling should be targeted by Hard hitter Nazir,Dup AKMAl, BOOM BOOM and razzaq.....But cahnce of rain is quite high...

As an Indian, I wish all the best to India. My prayers are with India. But on present form, pak looks much better. Well of course miracles can happen in T20 and I pray that it happens tomorrow though deep in my heart, I know that India does not deserve to win and that pak deserves to win based on current form and performance. All the best to both teams.

No need to include 4 spinners against india as they know how to play spin, drop afridi and pick razzaq over him. Most likely inexperience hafeez wont drop afridi. We need razzaq back because it will be his experience that will save the match for pakistan.

Posted by sweetspot on (September 29, 2012, 18:15 GMT)

Can't read much into this encounter. India cannot suddenly become a terrible team a few days after hammering England by 90 runs! Pakistan cannot suddenly become a great team by sneaking through while chasing 130 odd. Anything can happen, but I will feel there is a jinx against Pakistan in WC matches if they lose, yet again, to India. Sure I love to see India win, but if Pakistan play the better cricket, kudos to them! Let's enjoy the game. The old rivalry is no longer there, as far as I can see. It is just fun now.

Posted by sani_pakistan on (September 29, 2012, 18:10 GMT)

For everyone talking about exclusion of Afridi...well all i have to say is I don't want u to praise fofor him after he does what he does best i.e. performing in big match. Our cricket and our support for afridi is much more than every true afrifi fan like me...for lala...say alouddddd...." BE AFRIDI...VERY AFRIDI....."

i dont know why but im feeling tomorrow there will be a one sided game, either ind or pak will hugely dominate ..

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 18:06 GMT)

Guys, dont get excited...My teory is simple. It will be a tight match. Pakistan has bowling unit and India has good batting (Viru is playing tomorrow's game). Pakistan has slightly weak link of batting and India has weak bowling attack. At the end it will the side that handles pressure and plays more on merit and uses brain rather than being Senti and emotional. Pakistan has a slight chance over India as their batting is clicking in this tournament!!..looking forward to a close contest!asim from Rawalpindi

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 18:06 GMT)

As a Pakistani supporter, i'd feel more confident if India leave out Sehwag for tommorow's game as well! I feel India Vs Pakistan is played in mind more than on the field and for the last 5-6 years players like Sehwag, Yuvraj and Gambhir have been more instrumental in India's wins against Pakistan than the likes of Tendulkar or Dravid.

Posted by RameshRayaprolu on (September 29, 2012, 18:03 GMT)

Unfortunately, Indian team has lost all their confidence, thanks to Shane Watson!! I dont think they will ever try to give some fight in their next 2 matches...they seem to be packing up luggage to get back home!

So, this Sunday, India will lose their first match against Pakistan in the world cup matches! And I have a feeling that either of Imran Nazir or Kamran Akmal would be MOM.

Good luck !

I see Kohli....and only Kohli coming all guns blazing in tomorrow's game. Kohli is the only player who's helping this spineless team to survive...otherwise they are hopeless.

"..and some of the reserves provided by the selectors are not good enough." - Let the author not take up the job of a selector. When it comes to Badri, you'll finish his career in 3 innings despite scoring a fifty in one of those innings and now, you want to finish a Balaji for giving away 10 runs in 1 over and poor Ashwin for giving away 8.3 runs per over despite bowling 3 of his 4 overs in batting power play. Do not dump a Chawla or a Balaji giving them a short stint. How come some people went silent when the Jadejas and Rohits were given numerous chances despite repeated failures??

Posted by abdul.alim on (September 29, 2012, 17:39 GMT)

i guess Pakistan will beat India by 10 wickets if India bat first, and by 50 runs if Pakistan bat first. Pakistan will score more than 200 runs if they bat first against a school boys bowling side.

Kohli is the wall between pakistan and a win, crack that wall with good strategic bowling, winning should not be a problem for Pak team. Their coach should draw a plan for ball by ball on paper for each bowler. random bowling as fast bowlers have been doing will not work against a strong batting Giant like India and Australia. Wake up Pakistan

India are more likely to chase a target tommorow. If India win, then they will know exactly what to do against SA as they play last group game. But pressure on INDIA. Like asia cup, kohli will be the hero vs pak tommorow

If Pakistan need to win tomorrow Imran Nazir and Nasir Jamshed have to perform, Its right that Pak bowling is better than India but batting wise India is a better side so Pak hitters need to do well tomorrow and hopefully Kamran Akmal keeps well, he is really poor this tournament

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 17:32 GMT)

Do or die situation now for India. My suugestion for playing even as under. Sehwag, Gambir, Kohli, Dhoni (he has never score T20 fifty so he can score fifty plus), Yuvraj (he can bowl 2 overs as left arm spinner), Raina, Tiwari (he can bowl 2 overs as off spinner), Ashwin, Harbhan, Zaheer and Balaji. I do not want to see Pathan as he always bowls short pitch without speed and that too legside so anyone can hit sixer easily. Rohit bowled same fashion for at least 5 times in 2 months so we can not keep any faith on him and lastly Chawla is leg spinner but without troubling any batsmen as his lenth never stump to stump.

I think tomorrow will be decided by one big performance by individual player. It may be Ajmal/Afridi or Nazir. As far as India is concerned there main strength is their batting always. Lets go with a 7 batsman stratergy and have a word go from starting ball. Only one way India to win the match is to play a very aggressive cricket. for which SEHWAG is very key. May be it could be a day for VIRU tomorrow or it will be a KOHLI/ DHONI show. It will be a cracker of a game. Both the result will be good for the game. If India wins then they carry their record again PAK in world cups (as Italy keep their record agains GERMANS) funny its a strange fact..Or it could be Pakistan breaks the record and march on as the fav to win the t20 again.......:)

Tomorrow's Weather in Colombo… Scattered showers and thunderstorms. High near 85F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 40%...May be this will help Dhoni with his team combination…. For all those who are commenting tomorrow's game being a cracker….look at India's performance and look at Pakistan's performance….I want India to win; but, you got to be realistic here…

Posted by shravanvallaban on (September 29, 2012, 17:17 GMT)

for india's sake gambhir should be dropped.he has a poor strike rate.he rarery scores a boundary that too a four and doen not hit the bad balls to boundaries. sehwag should open with rohit sharma as the opening the fierce and makes the opponent to fear.india pace department is the worst pace bowling attack among the 8 teams.irfan should play at7.

Being an Indian I'd like to see India win but also as a cricket fan it'd be nice to see a performance that isn't pathetic from them. Pakistan are already through and so for a closer outcome to the group and a less one sided tournament I'd like to see India win. Having said that a Pakistan win looks on the cards based on form & confidence.

I hope and pray India loose tomorrow to Pakistan because I don't want heartbreaks especially in the crucial matches or in the semi-finals. Bottom line is our bowling looks very ordinary and batting depends a lot on Virat/Rohit/Raina.

Let's face it. Nobody except Virat Kohli is performing in this team. Every other bowler and batsman (and captain cool wicket keeper) looks out of confidence.

Posted by wolf777 on (September 29, 2012, 17:02 GMT)

Two off spinners? Why? Counting Virender Sehwag and Rohit Sharma, there are four off spinners in the team. By the way, my advice to Manoj Tiwari is to retire from cricket or look for another national side to represent. It's been decided that Rohit Sharma is the (dark) future of Indian Batting line up...

I have a feeling it's going to be either a Umar Gul day with the ball or a Gambhir day with the bat. Hoping to see Razzak in place of Malik for Pakistan though. And who knows what Dhoni would do! This surely has to be his last T20 involvement for India?

Good luck to both teams prayers with my pakistan :)

Posted by procric on (September 29, 2012, 16:41 GMT)

Please don't take it otherwise, being a true Indian also I must accept that Pakistan is having an upper hand in this world cup. Dhoni should leave captaincy because he has accumulated lots of baggage to carry which is real burdensome. He is still a very fine cricketer for shorter version of the game and should continue as a wicket keeper batsman.

My selection for both sides would be Pak :Hafeez Nazir Jamshed K.Akmal Shoaib U.Akmal Razzaq Gul Afridi (in that place) Ajmal Arafat. Not playing Raza because india are great players of spin and raina, kohli and yuvi will whack him and India's team should be Sehwag Gambhir Kohli Raina, Rohit Yuvi(great man) Dhoni Ashwin Pathan Harbhajan Zaheer. LOL This india team can bat all the way down to number 11. India are favourites tomorrow mainly because of their record against Pakistan in world cups. Good luck to both teams tomorrow.T ommorow is going to be the best match of the tournament

india really have got plenty of problems going into this match.. sehwag is destructive, but has never shown signs of becoming like what watson, warner, gayle are for respective teams.. all these players value their wicket and play their smashing strokes, but viru simply goes berserk from the word go.. if sehwag will fire once every 10 matches, there is no point in playing him.. but, then u dont have any choice either.. irfan pathan was ruined the same way in the past, when he could not understand his role in team.. if dhoni dint had much confidence in sehwag, he simply should have opted for someone else like rahane..

Y cant india leave out yuvraj... I agree hez a great cricketer but he is not ready for cricket right now nor has he found his touch yet. N besides, he doesnt look comfortable at all in running two's or even fielding. Manoj is not there on a holiday... He was selected to play for india. Why sideline him completely to accomodate yuvraj who is just a pale shadow of himself rite now, and that too for sentmental reasons!!!

Posted by pshelatkar on (September 29, 2012, 16:15 GMT)

My team Sehwag,Gambhir, kohli,Yuvraj,Tiwari,Raina,Dhoni,Irfan,Harbhajan,Ashwin,Zahir. No doubt irfan should open bowling and zahir could be used in middle overs if at all he is palying or else try with Bindra. All part timers like sehwag, yuvraj, tiwari,Raina shoudl be tried. Its a do or die situation for india ,if we dont win tomorrow we have to come back and mostly Pakistan and Australia will go through. Paksitan has pulled win from a match which they almost lost. Statistically Pakistan never won any match any world cup against India but that will not help India anyway tomorrow as they need to improve drastically in all 3 departments and play as per their potential. Time has come to show that India can win matches in T 20 also consecutively. One thing for sure it will be a great entertainment for all cricket lovers and may the best team win tomorrow , obviously being an indian will support my country .

funny statements from pakistani , in cricket any thing will happen

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 16:13 GMT)

it's gonna be cracker, India is out of form but pakistan never won against india in Worldcup, on the other hand Pakistan's strength is Spinners at the moment ad indians play spinners very well. so numbers dnt matter most. it is matter of handling pressure , as always in India vs Pakistan game pressure handlers win the match and for last few years indian handling the pressure well. I hope my Green Color will raise in they of Luck Pakistan.

Posted by chintanpatel on (September 29, 2012, 16:12 GMT)

The odds are in India's favour because Pakistan never beat India in a world cup match and also the last two multi team tournament the tri-series in Australia and the Asia cup India was in a must win situation and India won both games very well.

Posted by SudeepSharma_Nepal on (September 29, 2012, 16:11 GMT)

India looks completely lacklusture in this tournament. Batting is considered India's strength but no one has had a decent outing in the middle except Kohli and Rohit. Dhoni must be seriously joking to ask Irfan to open the batting. Morning shows the day and the way you start your innings with a tailender certainly takes away all the initiative. I do think its time for young Virat to take over to inject some life in this dead and irresponsive looking team. And I do wonder if Gautam Gambhir is a player for the T2o games, he might be Ok with the spin though. Question will be also raised against the versatility of Raina.

Posted by kunalx on (September 29, 2012, 16:11 GMT)

Two results possible tomorrow. <1> Pakistan winning the match one sided way. <2> India winning the match in last over because it's IND PAK match. Both the result will end India's journey as NRR is very poor.

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 16:07 GMT)

When was the last time Zaheer Khan did anything spectacular for his team. Being selected on past performance is the indulgence of a team that lacks the killer instinct And if Dhoni is another weak link, why doesn't he make the Gandhyian decision and step aside and give the leadership to whoever is the Nehru in the side? And in this case, why not Kohli?

Posted by Bharatvarsh.. on (September 29, 2012, 16:06 GMT)

will be a good match..however,i get a feeling, india's confidence is dented by thrashing agnst australia, also india's bowling does not look promising, and the fact that pakistan can bowl well in the slog overs and a little bit in the middle overs can give pak an edge.india must and must bring sehwag which is the most danger for pak with kohli.also this is the format where pakistan plays best and are more consistent than the odds are 60-40 in favour of pakistan.right now no real speedstar in indian team is affecting india's performance.

I am unable to understand why Professor is not utlizing Abdul Razzaq. Afridi is struggling and they have a line of spin bowling. Razzaq is highly under utlized and there is no point in keeping him on the bench. He should replace Afridi for the next matches. There is enough fire power on top but not a real one who can deliver at death overs.

Posted by trueanalyst on (September 29 2012, 07:35 AM GMT) If there is any player who needs to be dropped first it is MS Dhoni. 2)Dhoni himself is the worst T20 Player of India. His strike rate is a measly 109 and what makes it worst is his average of 30. At least if his average was less it could have been better. It effectively means he is utilising 5 overs in every match and scoring 32 runs and that to at Slog overs.Proof of this is in last match against Australia and also against Newzealand where he was responsible for India's defeat. In slog overs strike rate should be 160.So every match he is denying 15 runs to the Indian total. AT Rayudu should replace Dhoni after this world cup.MS Dhoni deserves only place in 50 over cricket -------------------------------------------------------- I don't think any expert has questioned Dhoni's place in the team.It is only us the Indian team supporters and it is good that our voice is being heard. The points about Dhoni reflect mostly my comments

Watch out Pakistan. If south africa beat australia tomorrow then you need to beat India and Australia. If you beat India and and loose to Austrlia then your Semifinal destiny falls on India's last match against Australia. If India loose to south africa then NRR comes into picture for Pak,Australia South Africa. If Pak gets a better NRR than Australia then they are fine.

Posted by Nampally on (September 29, 2012, 15:29 GMT)

I hope Dhoni never repeats his blunder of dropping Sehwag from XI. It is vital for Sehwag to fire @ 100% power for India to pull off wins in the next 2 Super 8 matches. Also playing Rohit is a big gamble as opposed to going with Tiwary, who contributes his part when ever he plays. Tiwary is also a leg spinner & can be used if necessary. India should go with ZAK & Irfan opening the bowling supported by Ashwin, Yuvraj as spinners. The fifth spot is a toss up betn the only 2 available border line "bowlers" - Harbhajan & Balaji. I would prefer using Balaji + Sehwag+ Tiwary as the fifth bowler. Dhoni has too many bowling problems + an unsettled middle order after Kohli. Let Tiwary bat #4, Yuvraj#5, Raina #6. Tiwary provides the same stability as Kohli. Dhoni must use Irfan & ZAK to open the bowling as they are both good swing bowlers. Using Ashwin to open the bowling is wasting the new ball. India must play as a team & go with a winning attitude. If they play hard, Victory will be theirs!

Dhoni is qualified to play only ipl ,where he can score the runs in the strike rate of 150 , In T-20s he can score runs like yestedy game against Aus.. And remind to all Dhoni never played a match winning innings in T-20 for india.. Through this guy out of the team and make gambir as a captain , then all problems and rifts in the team will be solved, Dhoni is dividing the indian dressing room.. Soon he will be out there,

As far as I am concerned when it comes to playing with India Pakistan always go down its a shame, as its said before Pakistan has never won a single match against India in world cups second thing Pakistan is very unpredictable so its 50 50, for India its a perfect match to win and come back in the tournament!!

i calculated.....if india wins the upcoming matches...undoubtebly they will reach semis until unless pak defeats aus and aus defeats sa.........if any of these 2 condition is not fulfiled....then the chances are for talking about tommorows matches....s. africans are packed with world class bowlers like steyn-morkel who rocked in ipl....albie;s quota is a problem fo rthem,...otherwise botha-robin are average.....and they have 4 excelent batsamn...ab..levi..duminy..kalliss...sometimes morkel......but warner watsom, hussey, white etc. and their bowling is average..........aus is likely to win if their top 4 performs..their olwing is enogh for proteas........ and indians have a bit problem too....sehwag will be alongwith gambhir..kolhi is excellent....yuvraj can fire on his day as we saw against nz....raina is perfect for fdevastated the way he batted against dd and mi in ipl play offs.....irfan can claer the boundary as well, ashwin and harbhajan can bat

Agrees with "Syed_imran_abbas" Pakistan do not need five spin bowlers against India. They play spin well instead Pakistan should pick Asad Shafeeq to get some batting practice for upcoming tough matches against AUS, Semi Final & Final

the thing is that India don't have an All-rounder of colossal proportions like Aussie do. Every country who does well have these.. Australia get them in bundles.. First Symonds, then Watson etc. SA have Kallis. India need to find another Kapil Dev--once they do they could be unbeatable..

The Truth is that no one can understand what a match means to Pakistani or Indian nation other than people of these two countries. Rightly termed as a sport as dear as a religion, cricket match becomes a war of nerves. Its fruitless to analyse teams's performance before a particular match as none matters on the particular match day. Pakistan hasnt beaten India so far in any 50 or 20 over World Cup. Being a Pakistani I feel the moment couldnt have been better than this match. Already beaten India in warm up match, then recently winning against Australia and South Africa must have given added confidence to Team Pakistan. While India must be feeling low on morale after been let down by their lead players. Lets hope that tomorrow's match turns out to be a nail biter same as a lot of matches played between these two. Pakistan seems better but you can never count India out. Best of Luck Team Pakistan!!!

Although I am Indian, Pakistan looks the best for the cup with their balanced side. India doesn't have that balance to progress. India's bowling is simply too weak and they caanot rely on batting power alone. India's match against Australia showed what happens when the batting fails. India need to score minimum 180 to have a chance of winning in all their matches.

All the mud slinging aside, tomorrow's game is going to be a fantastic one. I expect Dhoni to give into pressure and let Sehwag back in the side. What will be interesting is whether Pak play the same bowling combo as the last match - Raza Hasan for Sohail Tanveer; Indian batsmen play spin better than most other international teams so if that is the combo, the bowlers will have to put in a special effort. Indian fans' hearts may well get broken tomorrow if both the Pak batting and bowling clicks which is yet to happen. Whether it happens tomorrow or later in the tournament remains to be seen

I miss misba for Tik Tik please bring asad and Abdul razaq

After the thrashing of the Indian bowlers by the two Ws in the Australia match, this time it's the turn of the Indian batsmen to get bamboozled by the two As - Ajmal & Afridi. Hope you enjoyed the Lankan beaches and hospitality, time to pack your bags now, seats have already been reserved for the Aussies & you. Try and learn how to bat & bowl from the defending champions.

very big match .mother of all games.but i again say india win ,bcs its political game, pakistan is very strong team but its political game that india every world cup how india win, india bowling is worst bowling of all worldf.but bating is best .india bating 90% bowling 30 % pakistan bating50 % and bowling 85% if amir here then i say pakistan is best site

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 13:59 GMT)

its another special world cup match..... form doesn't matter. The thing which matters the most is the attitude which Pak players have but less as compared with Indians.....i donno who will win but hope so this match should get decided at the last ball. One bad news for Indians is that Misbah is not in the pakistans current team...Common Indiaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

All the best to both the teams! Both the teams raise their game against each other. This is going to be an exciting match for sure.

Posted by atuljain1969 on (September 29, 2012, 13:53 GMT)

Indian team playing in this T20 world cup plays for Tests and one dayers too. Have a look at other teams, most of them have specialists T20 players.

Despite having IPL T20 since long, the Indian team do not hace specialists for this version. May we are too obsessed with our starts, that we have fail to give proper exposure to new talent.

Remember India won the T20, when they had relatively fresh faces team. mOst of the seniors were not there in the team, though those days fesh faces have now become seniors and we are still carrying with them.

I am sure we won't progress beyond super 8.

Posted by ammarhassan on (September 29, 2012, 13:51 GMT)

Pakistan has never won a WC match against India and India has not won a super 8 match after the start of IPL ... One of the records will be broken tomorow :)

I got to admit, Ashes tests aside, whenever these two sides meet always intrigues me. It's rarely close, one side usually dishes out a hiding to the other & the hatchets are sharpened for the losers. This is real chest beating stuff for the winner. One could almost say the rest of the tournament is inconsequential as long as bragging rights are claimed for this game.

Pakistan is flowing in a Rythm but I am shocked to see India's performance, escpecially from their Bowlers. From the population of over 1 Billion why on earth they can't produce a quality Fast bowler like Omar Gul or a well trimmed Spinner like Saeed Ajmal. ???? Where is BCCI Selection Squad??? What on earth they have gained from INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE ???? Huh Nothing !!!! Their bowling side is even weaker than WestIndian side On Sunday 30th September Pakistan Will Defeat the Historical Trend of not winning from India in Worldcups.

india gonna beat pak if oly evry batsman fires at d top thr shud b 7 batsman nd 4 bowlers wit 2 spinners nd 2 seamrs india hs so many prt time bwlrs y is sehwag sittin out but if he cum s in d side he shud b able 2 fire den oly india can win

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 13:45 GMT)

Looks like Pak will win their first Word Cup victory over India. India's bowling is simply too weak with Sachin, no Zaheer is out of form. So is their last player of the tournament Yuvraj. Sehwag has lost is place in 11 and Raina, Rohit and Dhoni are unpredictable.

Posted by welleft on (September 29, 2012, 13:45 GMT)

with current bowling and batting form its tough for india, this might be the first loss for india against pak in world cups,

Posted by tdslbuwa on (September 29, 2012, 13:45 GMT)

best of luck Pakistan ......from a Sri Lankan fan !!!!

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 13:43 GMT)

Should be a comfortable win for Pak, they are looking very good indeed since last year. Their pace bowling attack should rip India apart. Shame the indian selectors keep trying to play a dead horse.

There is plenty of talent in the IPL but non will see the Indian team as the selectors are too busy playing politics more concerned about generating larger revenue streams of cash by playing the bigger names, not the best man for the job.

If a players performance is abysmal over his last 3-4 games he should be axed until able to prove himself again. Learn from the Eng and AUS teams.

Posted by ListenToMe on (September 29, 2012, 13:41 GMT)

If India bats first, Dhoni should come as the last recognized batsman. Else he should opt out of the team. I am sure, if he gets a chance to bat for atleast 4 overs, India will lose the match as the run rate will fall sharply. He is not taking good decisions as a captain. Using common sense I think the bating order should be Shewag, Gambhir, Kohli, Yuvraj, Raina, Rohit, Dhoni, Irfan, Aswin, Harbhajan, Zaheer. The bowling order should be Irfan, Zaheer, Aswin, Harbhajan. My point is Irfan is better in the initial overs and Aswin soon after the fast bowlers.

Sehwag should definitely be included in the playing XI to make sure that, India wins against pakistan. Go India Go..!

Pak/Ind game is altogether a different game...stats doesn't really matter at all nor does the names...current form is what really matters..its 50-50 game to me

indian team can't have bowlers who can takw wkts , can't have fielders who can save boundaries(except kohli & raina ) , can't have batsmen who can play short pitch ball well . how can you except this team to win . go pakistan go thrash the indian team .

Posted by cric4world on (September 29, 2012, 13:24 GMT)

i would love pakistan to beat india but i think india will win this game n still go out of tournament after they lose to south afr. and pakistan will have to definitely beat aus. this is how pakistan plays they seldom get an easy route to semis. so semi finalists from this group r south afr and either aus or pak in my opinion.but tomorrow if pak wins its gona b bcoz of jamshed, malik n afridi.coz most of the times out of form or new players perform for both these teams when they play against each other.from indian side i think sehwag/gambhir and ashwin r gona b trouble for us. india has better chance of winning bcoz they r gonna go full throttle no matter wat and pak r gona b relaxed no matter wat they try to stay pumped up.its natural

What a silly statement that Dhoni's place is under threat? Oh, really? Sidharth, I expected better frm you, you're sounding like the typical fanatical fans whose opinion changes after every game, depending on the outcome! And did Dhoni grey after one bad match?!

Posted by TheSachinGod on (September 29, 2012, 13:21 GMT)

Good luck India.. let the streak of beating Pakistan in worldcup matches go on!

Posted by   on (September 29, 2012, 13:21 GMT)

hmm nice waiting for the match hardly want to win pakistan by gud avaerage and inshahALLAh pakistan will win

Afridi must click in next game tomorrow. Big game and a big player needed. Not sure if thay should play raza hassan as there are already 4 spinnera in side. they can take Asad shafeeq in to consolidate batting or razzaq.

OMG last match (Ind vs Aus ) I was watching that match very closer to Premadasa Stadium & Was expecting one of those Big Sixes mitgh damage our roof... LOL but this time boom boom will def do that ... therefore pls keep extra balls , at least 10 -20 balls :-)
