Namibia raced into a commanding position in the Intercontinental Cup as UAE were rolled for 96 at Windhoek before the home side piled up a lead of 155 by the close of the opening day. Louis Burger, the Namibia captain, led the way with the bat as he built on the fine work of his bowlers.
UAE never managed to achieve a foothold in their innings as wickets fell rapidly after they'd been asked to bat. Gerrie Snyman started the slide and the scalps were shared around. Louis Klazinga ended with the pick of the figures, claiming three middle-order strikes in his nine overs.
Only Kashif Khan and Ali Asad reached the 20s, Asad striking two sixes as he went down with all guns blazing. Louis Burger helped wrap up the innings with two wickets and he didn't have to wait long for his turn at the crease.
Wasim Bari led a spirited UAE counter-attack as he removed both Namibia's openers as they stumbled to 37 for 3. The innings was steadied by a stand of 93 from Burger and Snyman, who hammered nine fours a six in his 49-ball 66. UAE managed to chip away at the wickets, but Namibia continued to score at an impressive rate and will already be sensing victory.
