Pakistan in South Africa ODI Series - 4th ODI

South Africa v Pakistan

South Africa won by 10 wickets (with 216 balls remaining)

Hello! Welcome to the fourth ODI. Its me Sriram Veera again (Don't groan now).

Toss South Africa have won the toss and will have a bowl. Reason: Overcast conditions out there. No rain as yet. Ball is likely to move around. Well atleast that's what they are hoping.

I am sure you have heard by now that Afridi has been banned for four games. He will miss the first two games of the World Cup. So Pakistan have drafted in the left-arm spinner Abdur Rehman for this game.

South Africa are carrying a unchanged side. Some sound bytes from Herschelle Gibbs Gibbs: "Although our focus is still on beating Pakistan, the World Cup is at the back of everybody's minds now. But I would emphasise that we are all determined to win the next two games and make sure our preparations are spot on before we go to the World Cup. My target is to be the player of the tournament at the World Cup and hopefully in a winning side. I have done well there in the past and I'm looking forward to it."

All set. The players are out there. Lets Play!

0.1

Pollock to Imran Nazir, no run, Rightaway some movement. Landed on the length, around off and middle, came back in to trap Imran Nazir on the left thigh.

0.2

Pollock to Imran Nazir, no run, Gets squared-up a touch as the ball held its line after landing on the off stump line, he manages to push it away to the off side

0.3

Pollock to Imran Nazir, no run, again honing on the off stump line, Imran goes back, gets behind the line, turns it to on side

0.4

Pollock to Imran Nazir, OUT, Gone! Pollock locks Nazir with a nip-backer and produces a edge. Lands on a length, outside the off stump and it jagged back in. Nazir drove at it loosely, didn't expect it would come back so much and ended up driving outside the line. Gets an inside-edge and it flew to left of Boucher who pouches it safely. Pretty smart catch. First blow to South Africa. Remember they won the toss and put Pakistan to bat under slightly overcast conditions.

1.3

Ntini to Younis Khan, no run, hits the deck back of length, outside the off stump and jags backs in. Younis is cut into half. He doubles up as the ball nips back in, has a stab at it but the ball evades the defensive blade and thuds into the thigh pad. Good start from the seamers under helpful conditions.

1.4

Ntini to Younis Khan, no run, this one comes back in but was pitched well outside off and Younis shoulders arms

1.5

Ntini to Younis Khan, no run, Ntini continues with his variation. Takes this one away, slightly, after landing outside off, again Younis has it covered, lets it go past him

1.6

Ntini to Younis Khan, no run, comes back in from outside off, tucked to Prince at square leg

End of over 2 (1 run) Pakistan 1/1 (RR: 0.50)

4.2

Pollock to Kamran Akmal, no run, first stroke of intent and confidence. Short of length and outside off stump, Akmal goes back to punch it to point

4.3

Pollock to Kamran Akmal, no run, And again. Akmal looks comfortable when the ball is pitched short of length. Its when its on a length, he is caught a bit at the crease. Going neither forward nor back

End of over 6 (2 runs) Pakistan 5/1 (RR: 0.83)

End of over 7 (1 run) Pakistan 6/1 (RR: 0.85)

Ntini to Younis Khan, no run, fullish, outside off and shapes back in, Younis gets behind that one in a hurry and defends

7.2

Ntini to Younis Khan, no run, jabs at a length-delivery around off, it rolls in front of him, Younis takes a couple of steps forward as if he wants a run, Ntini charges at him and he gets back.

7.3

Ntini to Younis Khan, OUT, Akmal's dismal time continues. He slips in the middle of the pitch and can't get back. Younis pushes a length delivery towards cover and Akmal rushes across like a express train. Younis is no mood to catch the train, he stays rooted to his station and Akmal has to turn back. He does but slips and falls. Gets up but by the time Gibbs had swooped in on the ball, sees that Akmal is just trying to get on his feet, and so runs with the ball towards the non-strikers end. And when he gets near, he underarms a direct hit and Akmal is well short of the crease.

Abdul Baseer is in a impetuous mood. "Pakistan will see-off the new ball by scoring 10 runs of 15 overs at a cost of only openers and a couple of middle order batsmen. And for the next match the strategy will remain the same :) "

12.3

Pollock to Younis Khan, OUT, Pakistan slip deeper into crisis. Now Younis perishes.
