10.36pm That was a fun, high-scoring thriller. It boiled down to the last ball, with Australia needing four off it and David did the job for Australia. Australia go 1-0 up in Wellington, with two games to go in Auckland. Brace yourselves for more big scores at Eden Park. Boult is set to return to international action there. So, plenty to look forward to at Eden Park. That's all we have for you from this game. Until next time, this is Deivarayan Muthu signing off on the behalf of Alex Malcolm. Take care and good night.

Mitch Marsh is the Player of the Match for his all-round effort. "Timmy David is extremely calm and has got a lot of confidence in his ability towards the end there," he says. "We're very lucky to have him. Just a great game of cricket. Any time you chase down 216 is a great effort. We just got over the line by the sheer brilliance of Tim David. We've got the Test series starting in a week so our bowlers will likely rotate. We've also got guys like Steve Smith who will come in for a crack at some point in time."

Mitch Santner: "I thought we didn't bowl too bad. But the power they possess all the way down is the reason why they're pretty good. [215] was a pretty good score. I guess we know they keep coming with the bat. The only way to stop them is to keep taking wickets and we didn't really do that today. It was a hell of a game of cricket. We've just got to reflect and move on. When the Bison (Mitch Marsh) can mis-hit it for six it means I might have to go to the gym to get some arms like that."

Srividya : "So Australia continue to silence crowds across the world ! And they did silence a very hostile crowd tonight "

Kiran: "Good game with a view to the World Cup. I was surprised that NZ didn't give another of their bowling options a go when it was going poorly in the middle just to experiment. "

James: "The real winner tonight was cricket. The real loser tonight was the Win Predictor"

Lilifar: "That's a powerful display of batting from Tim David "

Anis: "To that CSK Fan ...now MI fans very Happy :)"

Southee to David, FOUR runs

shovelled away with the bottom hand between deep midwicket and wide long-on. Bam! Even Phillips can't stop that! David finishes it off the last ball for Australia. Southee tries the yorker, but marginally misses his length, tails into David, but David still clears his front leg and absolutely muscles it away to the leg-side boundary. Phillips leaps to his left but David has hit it so hard. Phillips is shocked at the boundary. The crowd is shocked beyond the boundary. But this is just David doing David things

Australia need four to win off the last ball. Tim Southee vs Tim David.

Southee to David, 2 runs

off-stump yorker, good comeback from Southee. David carves away to the right of deep cover and rushes back for the double

19.4
6
Southee to David, SIX runs

Southee searches for a yorker, ends up pushing a full-toss down the leg side. David connects with it and sends it flat and hard over the boundary. Replays indicate that he hit the long-leg boundary cushions on the full

Southee to Marsh, 1 leg bye

knee-high full-toss, swinging in to Marsh. On another day Marsh would've smashed it out of Wellington. On this day he can only inside-edge it onto his thigh pad. Southee and NZ get lucky

1
Southee to David, 1 run

just short of a yorker length, but still a good full ball on leg stump, David backs away and digs it out to the covers

Southee to Marsh, 1 leg bye

inch-perfect yorker from Southee, right in the blockhole and ducks in, pings Marsh's pad or rather the boot. Southee spins around for an lbw appeal. Not given on the field. It seems to be heading down the leg side. NZ still call for a review, given the game-situation. It had pitched outside leg too. Good call from umpire Haig

Southee to Marsh, 1 wide

full and veering down the leg side, left alone, leg-side wide

Southee has 15 to defend off the last over. Marsh is well-set while David has hit three boundaries in six balls. This could be fun

launches it again. That's two sixes to end the over. Milne goes yorker. He misses the mark. David batting deep in his crease is able to line it up and thumps it over long-on

Milne to David, SIX runs

smoked! David charges down the crease with menacing intent and he has demolished the slower length ball 98 metres over the straight boundary

Anver Azeez: "Watch out a super over is ahead !!"

toe ends the wide yorker and it slithers away for four between short third and the keeper.

inside Marsh's swinging arc - they're cramping him, not allowing the freedom of those big shoulder. Full and angling into the base of fourth stump. Only a single to deep midwicket

Milne to David, 1 bye

Conway fluffs it behind the stumps as David swings at a full and wide delivery and makes no contact. Australia staying leg side of the ball sometimes to their detriment

Sandy Paypa: "Brilliant 17th from Santner, immensely underrated imo. Also brilliant from the NZ crowd, haven't seen that kind of atmosphere here for a long time. What a send off for the man. Reminds me of Chiefs v Crusaders rugby. The niggle. The fierceness. That's why we love cricket."

looks for the yorker outside off, Marsh is able to smear it away and he's looking set for a boundary through point, but Allen pops up just in time

onto him so very quickly, the 144 kph back of a length ball angling into the body keeping Marsh quiet. No room for the pull shot. Brilliant finish. 14 dots in Ferguson's spell. Only 11 runs off the last two overs. Australia need 35 off 12 now.

17.5
Ferguson to Marsh, no run

goes back to the yorker, this time wide outside off. Marsh looks to snag the extra as he lets it go, but it lands inside the tram line

17.4
6
Ferguson to Marsh, SIX runs

smashes it over deep square leg. Goes to back of a length but that's the ball Marsh is setting up for. All of his strength comes into play to beat the shorter boundary

17.3
Ferguson to Marsh, no run

nails the yorker right at the base of middle stump and even Marsh can't get under it

17.2
Ferguson to Marsh, no run

slower ball into the body, on a good length, Marsh doesn't calibrate his bat swing properly and ends up playing and missing. There's still jeopardy here. Australia think about sneaking a single, Ferguson isn't about to let that happen, racing to his right off his followthrough and from somewhere near short leg he kicks the ball at the stumps and had he hit direct, Marsh would've been gone!

jeet: "Ravindra what have u done? Ignils was playing at Sr 100 wasnt a threat... Now good luck with TIm David"
