he misses again trying to flay over cover
Sixers vs Stars, Final at Sydney, BBL, Feb 08 2020 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Sydney Sixers are BBL 09 champions. The rain held off long enough so that they could earn the title. The second title in franchise history. The Stars come up short for the third time in a final. That concludes our BBL coverage this year. Thank you for being a part of it. On behalf of the team, it's goodbye from the SCG.
Presentation Player of the Final is Josh Philippe: "It's amazing. To think a couple of years ago I never thought I'd be here."
Stars captain Glenn Maxwell: "Extremely proud. The boys had a great year. To finish on top of the ladder after the home and away season was a great effort. Unfortunately we let ourselves down tonight but they can be proud. Two finals in a row. We've been extremely consistent. Onwards and upwards to next year. Congratulations to the Sixers and Moises who led superbly."
Sixers captain Moises Henriques: "It is much better to get out there and do some work to win the trophy. Well done to the ground staff. Thanks to the fans for turning out with the forecast. Congratulations to the Stars on a great season."
Sydney Sixers win BBL 09! It's their second BBL title. They win by 19 runs! Another brilliant performance from the Sixers with the ball. It's the third time they have beaten the Stars in four meetings this year including twice in the finals. They deserve the title. Josh Hazlewood was outstanding with the ball along with Lyon and O'Keefe after Josh Philippe set the game up with a brilliant half-century.
Vivek: "J Silk need to get as much credit as others, he steadied the other end and scored few boundaries to ease the pressure on Philip."
Sajid: "Sydney Sixers the deserving winners. Only disappointment is the absence of Tom Curran in this line-up who turned many matches for them single-handedly. "
Brad: "The stars lost last year's final by 13 runs, now this. It will continue to be a mental hurdle until they eventually win one"
length ball, he tries to launch again but misses
carved over cover-point into the crowd! Length ball wide of off, he thumps this with a helicopter type shot over deep cover-point
back of a length pushed wide of off, he tries to cut but misses
A roar from the home crowd. They know they've got it
low full toss, he miscues behind square to the sweeper
Abid : "One of the batsman needs to do Braithwaite here. "
full outside off, he drives hard wide of long off for two
29 off 6. Dwarshuis to finish
shorter length, he pulls this in the air behind square and Silk does an amazing job diving on the rope to knock it back in. Sensational fielding
shorter length, outside off, he tries to uppercut but misses. He's furious
full outside off, he carves another square drive past point! Amazing hands to find the gap with power
Amna: "After the dismissal of Gotch, 22 runs are scored on 7 balls. Why haven't they sent Coulter-Nile earlier?"
slower ball wide of off, 134kph, he tries to loft over cover but misses
full on middle, he clears the front leg and slices this brilliantly backward of point! Did well to get that in the gap from middle stump
low full toss on leg, 140kph, he clips this forward of square to the gap for two
Josh Hazlewood
shorter length, slower ball, he swings hard and misses
top edge over the keeper's head! A bouncer, wide of off, he swings hard and gets a top edge that flies high and safe and to the rope
Brad: "Phillipe should get as much credit as anyone as he has top scored in both finals when the team needed someone to bat through and post a score that the bowlers could easily defend"
pulled over deep midwicket into the Members! Short slower ball, it sat up, he rocked back and thumped it a long way back
shorter slower ball, he stands tall and flat bats this down the ground but doesn't time it well enough to reach long off on the field
back of a length wide of off, he swings hard and gets a thick inside edge that just runs past off stump, he gets two more
good length, outside off, he drills this in the air past Abbott straight of mid off for two
Joe: "Dunk was one of the top batters in the Mzansi Super League this season batting up the order, but for some reason the Stars have batted him down the order when they have Maddinson (who averages about 10 for them over the last few seasons) opening"
short ball, he pulls powerfully over deep square! Good strike this. Darted in short and he got back quickly and nailed it
Gaurav: Stars have not lost batting first in 5 occasions this tournament. Stars openers have 9 fifty + scores ( Stoinis has 7) and have scored 1007 runs . Stoinis has obviously dominated with 695 runs. Only 1 fifty in a lost game and that was against Sixers at Sydney in the league stage.
holes out to deep midwicket! It was tossed up in outside off, he tries to slog sweep against the turn but doesn't get enough of it and picks out Abbott on the rope
