7.55pm That's it folks, this one is abandoned. So a point each for Heat and Sixers. We'll be back tomorrow for the Melbourne derby. Until then, it's goodnight

7.25pm Umpires have said play needs to start by 8.25pm local to get a five-over game in.

gary: "And in the meantime, the fans have to sit and suffer...when will officials show common sense and call the game? Is it really the thought of giving refunds that is driving the decision making process? It seems everyone but CA and match officials can see there will be no play, given the rain has to stop before play can start...what does the groundskeeper say?" Yes, it looks very likely to be a washout, but they'll still be a refund if there is less than six overs and a no result. I agree this one is looking a bit futile, but I don't think it's a problem to try and wait.

Luke: "Gary - Just left the ground, most/all attendees have either found a dry spot to wait it out or have decided to head home, some enjoying dancing in the rain. Plenty of Food/Drink on sale, MC doing what they can with the music. No one is "suffering" - We're all just making the best of what is a **** situation but it is what it is."

7.10pm Something else to pass the time is this excellent piece on Nikhil Chaudhary and his journey from India to the BBL.

6.45pm Kath: "I live to the south of Brisbane. We've had occasional breaks in the weather all day but I'd say never long enough to get the outfield dry. I was so looking forward to watching my team (as well as looking at cricinfo!)."

Max: "At the ground now and puddles are starting to form in the outfield and just off the square. I think we're done for the night!"

6.40pm Woody: "As a local, storms rarely come from the east, but when they do, they stick around. Time to dust off the Heat BBL02 highlights for the night!" The cut off time would appear to be 8.15pm, although the amount of rain will determine how long the umpires hang around. It's a will shame. Was shaping to be a cracking contest.

6.25pm Well, one thing about the rain is it creates an ideal time to watch the latest episode of Around The Wicket with Aaron Finch and Lisa Sthalekar, hosted by Neroli Meadows. They look back on the MCG, Pat Cummins' captain, Australia's ongoing tour of India and much more (plus hear about when Aaron Finch got stuck in a lift).

6.20pm Ash: "At a pub near the GABBA. Was going to walk to ground but decided if I wanted to watch any cricket today it had to be on the tele for HH vs ST. It's looking miserable." Probably time for another round.

Richard A: "Rain is not lookin' good here in Brisbane. To get a result... it would take an MVP performance from both Duckworth AND Lewis. Looking towards the Gabba looks stormy right now."

6.15pm We have just passed the halfway mark of the regular season, so...

6.10pm Scotland: "When say it's wet do you mean get the brolly out or wet as in start building an ark wet" - Keep the ark on standby

6.00pm Update: it's wet

5.45pm We have plenty of things for you to get into around David Warner's Test retirement. He also confirmed he was finishing up in ODIs as well (probably).

5.40pm Will: "There's a lot of rain that's going to hit the ground in about 10 minutes time. Very heavy rain. I'll be very surprised if we start on time (or at all even)"

Still waiting for official word on a delayed toss but, well, it's been delayed.

5.20pm Hello everyone and welcome to our coverage of today's second BBL game from the Gabba. It's two of the leading sides of the tournament in what should be a terrific game. That's if the weather plays ball. It's a bit dicey at the moment, I'll bring you more when I get it. Andrew McGlashan here for the evening.
