Derbyshire 219 for 4 v Glamorgan
Scorecard
Wes Durston compiled his maiden first-class century for Derbyshire to put his side in a useful position after the first day of their County Championship Division Two clash at the SWALEC Stadium.
The former Somerset batsman, who was recruited from the Unicorns last season, scored 106 out of Derbyshire's total of 219 for 4 from 63 overs before bad light stopped play.
This match was designated a noon start, allowing the players an extra hour's recovery as both counties were in t20 action last night, but less than an hour was possible before rain interrupted proceedings.
Glamorgan, who welcomed back England Lions seamer James Harris from a month out with a foot problem, had the best of the first 55 minutes before the rain, despite Derbyshire winning the toss and deciding to bat under overcast conditions.
It was Graham Wagg, against his former county, who made the first breakthrough when Martin Guptill, the New Zealand international, padded up to his fourth ball and departed leg before. From 9 for 1 Derbyshire, who only have one four-day win to their name this season, became 26 for 2 when Chesney Hughes was bowled by Harris also shouldering arms.
Jim Allenby then replaced Wagg for the 12th over but with rain falling, the umpires took the players off the field at 12.55. When the sun appeared after the 2.50pm resumption Derbyshire's third-wicket pair of Wayne Madsen and Durston built a useful recovery putting on 100 in 25 overs.
Durston did not hang around and took a liking to Will Owen, who he hit for four fours in one over on his way to bringing up his fourth half-century of the season from 82 balls with 10 fours.
Madsen was eventually out for 44 when he hooked a short-pitched Owen ball straight to Harris at fine-leg before Durston and Dan Redfern guided the visitors through until tea on 172 for three.
Two overs after the tea interval Durston completed his century with the 18th four in an innings of 129 balls. His only other first-class century was against Derbyshire for Somerset in 2005. But Durston's fine effort came to an end when he was bowled by Allenby to leave Derbyshire 202 for 4 in the 54th over.
Redfern was stranded on 48 not out when bad light forced the players from the field at 6.30pm with 33 overs of the day lost to the elements.
