Armstrong boosts AIS with century

Australian Institute of Sport took first-day honours against New Zealand A at the Peter Burge Oval in Brisbane in the teams' fourth game in the Emerging Players Tournament. Tim Armstrong struck eight fours and five sixes in his 112 and was supported by several useful contributions from the middle order. Alex Keath made 73, adding 133 with Armstrong, while Glenn Maxwell and Tom Beaton, who made a quick 58, took AIS to 304 for 5. AIS scored their runs quickly and there were plenty of boundaries on show. After declaring, they struck an early blow, removing BJ Watling to leave New Zealand A at 14 for 1 at stumps.

India Emerging Players' bowlers did well to bowl South Africa Emerging Players out for 259 on the first day of their three-day game at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane, but a couple of late strikes from Ethan O'Reilly meant the day ended with the teams even. India lost S Anirudha and Ajinkya Rahane in the 6.4 overs they had to bat at the end of the day, to finish at 27 for 2. South Africa had also lost two early wickets in their innings, with R Vinay Kumar and Varun Aaron striking once each to leave them 7 for 2.

Stiaan van Zyl anchored South Africa's innings, scoring 97. India chipped away at the wickets at the other end, with Umesh Yadav picking up two wickets and Iqbal Abdulla grabbing three. Richard Levi partnered van Zyl in the biggest partnership of the innings - 83 runs for the fourth wicket - and Shaun von Berg added 59 runs down the order. Vinay Kumar came back to take the last two wickets, leaving him with figures of 3 for 35.
