Seamers seal innings victory for Federal Areas

Round-up of the third day's play in the first round of matches in the Faysal bank Pentangular Cup

Federal Areas completed an innings victory after Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Province's batting collapsed again in the second innings at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Khyber were dismissed for just 89 in the second innings with Nasrullah Khan taking 5 for 45 and Saad Altaf 4 for 36. The two seamers had taken eight wickets between them to bundle Khyber out for 111 in the first innings, and it was much of the same on the third day, as the low-scoring match finished within three days.
Federal Areas' added 20 runs to their overnight score of 196 for 8 on Tuesday morning, giving them a first-innings lead of 105. Bazid Khan top-scored with 64 while Naeem Anjum contributed 47. Seamer Imran Khan picked up 5 for 54, while legspinner Yasir Shah took four wickets. Unfortunately for Khyber, their efforts did not make much difference to the result. Khyber's cause was not helped by the absence of Riaz Afridi, who could not play due to a bereavement.
Baluchistan set Sind a stiff target of 362 to win at the Lahore City Cricket Association Ground, after reaching 294 in their second innings. They then took a couple of wickets, leaving Sind 61 for 2 at stumps. Sohaib Maqsood, who had reached his half-century on Monday, carried on his form and got to 87. His overnight partner Naved Yasin made 69, but the pair fell in quick succession leading to a flurry of wickets. Abdur Rauf and Zulfiqar Babar put together 56 runs for the ninth wicket to ensure the target was well in excess of 300. Danish Kaneria picked up another four wickets, giving him eight for the match, but it was Baluchistan who ended the day on top.
