Luke Pomersbach guided Western Australia to a one-wicket win at Perth despite Shaun Tait giving South Australia hope late in the game. Pomersbach was out for 87 with two runs still needed but the last pair, Ben Edmondson and Steve Magoffin, fell over the line with three balls to spare.
Pomersbach took the Warriors to 8 for 204 chasing 206 but Tait (4 for 62) had him caught at cover in the 49th over. Edmondson and Magoffin almost threw the game away with risky running between the wickets but found the two required off the final Ryan Harris over. Fittingly, Edmondson hit the winning run having set up the victory with 5 for 39.
Nathan Adcock's 90 was the sole highlight of a disappointing South Australia innings of 205 but the visitors were more impressive in the field. Western Australia slumped to 4 for 47 before Pomersbach continued his good form and capitalised after Jason Gillespie dropped a simple chance when he was on 30.
He hit five fours and three sixes but had little help from his team-mates. Lazy running ended Aaron Heal's support when on 14 he failed to ground his bat for what should have been an easy run. Adam Voges (30) also gave his wicket away with a suicidal attempted single.
Fortunately for the Warriors, Edmondson had done enough with the ball and his best domestic limited-overs effort featured fast, swinging yorkers that rattled the stumps of three of his victims. Adcock rescued the Redbacks with a 93-ball innings and was especially powerful on the on side. He hit six sixes and favoured the slog sweep but his performance failed to lift South Australia off the bottom of the FR Cup table.
