Dwayne Smith's 54 helped Barbados seal a place in the KFC Cup semi-finals after they beat Guyana by six wickets chasing 242 at Bourda in Georgetown. Guyana, though, also qualified for the semis along with Trinidad & Tobago (T&T) and Windward Islands
The game was reduced to 48 overs a side and Guyana pushed to 241 for 8 with an unbeaten 51 from Shivnarine Chanderpaul while Royston Crandon contributed 42 and Narsingh Deonarine, the Guyana captain, 35 to the total score. Corey Collymore and Fidel Edwards took two wickets each while Smith, Ryan Hinds, and Sulieman Benn got one each.
The Barbados openers, Dale Richards and Wayne Blackman, added 67 but then two wickets fell in the space of 11 runs. The third-wicket partnership for 89 more or less sealed the match in Barbados's favour and Ryan Hinds (36) and Alcindo Holder (38) finished things off with four balls to spare. Mahendra Nagamootoo, Guyana's legbreak bowler, ended with 2 for 62.
T&T stumbled to a two-wicket victory after bowling out Jamaica for 223 at the Sabina Park in Kingston. Kieron Pollard, the T&T allrounder who is part of West Indies' 30-man squad for the World Cup, took 4 for 32 in seven overs.
Wavell Hinds and Tamar Lambert added 109 for Jamaica's fourth wicket before both were caught off Pollard's bowling. No other Jamaican batsmen scored more than 19.
Denesh Ramdin and Lendl Simmons gave T&T a 121-run start but eight wickets fell for 79 runs before Rayad Emrit and Dave Mohammed took them to safety with 31 balls to spare. Marlon Samuels, playing his first match since the Indian police revealed taped phone conversations between him and an alleged Indian bookie, took 4 for 45 while Jermaine Lawson and Daren Powell got two wickets each.
Windwards cruised to a six-wicket victory over Leeward Islands with Andre Fletcher winning the Man-of-the-match award for his 85 in Windwards total of 206 at the Carib Lumber Park in St Maarten.
Dennis George, the Windwards slow left-arm orthodox bowler, got a five-wicket haul in only his second List A match. Opener, Austin Richards, top-scored for Leewards with 46. Runako Morton (28) and Sylvester Joseph (27) added 51 for the third wicket before George had them both caught at point.
Devon Smith and Fletcher added 86 for the second wicket for Windwards after which Miles Bascombe joined Fletcher and they together added 40 more. Darren Sammy (28) and Liam Sebastien (3) were at the crease as Windwards wrapped up the match inside 43 overs.
