Shaun Tait made a convincing argument that his injured elbow has recovered, destroying Queensland with a career-best 7 for 29 that set up a six-wicket win for South Australia. Tait finished with ten wickets for the match and left his batting team-mates with a chase of 80, which they reached despite a few shaky moments.
It seemed they might somehow find a way to undo Tait's hard work when they fell to 2 for 11 and then 4 for 42 as Mitchell Johnson (3 for 33) refused to write off the Bulls' chances. However, Nathan Adcock, the Redbacks' under-pressure captain, kept his head with 49 not out that brought his team its second consecutive win.
Tait used the overcast Brisbane conditions to extract significant swing as he picked up where he left off at stumps on the second day, when he had reduced the Bulls to 4 for 24. He encountered little resistance from a wobbly Queensland line-up that once again relied on Ashley Noffke, who made 60 and is now behind only Simon Katich on this season's Pura Cup run tally.
After being forced to sit out of the Redbacks' previous game on Cricket Australia's orders, Tait showed the selectors that he should be in the mix for a Test spot this summer. He finished with match figures of 10 for 98, his first ten-wicket haul in a first-class game.
