Abid Nabi, the promising young fast bowler, and Sameer Khajuria, the offspinner, shared nine wickets as Jammu & Kashmir bowled out Jharkhand for 242 at the Keenan Stadium in Jamshedpur. Manish Vardhan (56) and Arun Kumar Vidyarthi (75) were the only batsmen to stand out as Nabi ripped through the top order while Khajuria spun out the lower order. In reply, J&K lost Sajjad Shaikh for four as they reached 19 for 1 at stumps.

Assam 162 for 3 (Arunkumar 83*) v Railways

Assam crawled to 162 for 3 against Railways in their second round match at Guwahati. Captain J Arunkumar made a sedate unbeaten 83 off 228 balls to steer Assam to safety after his side lost three quick wickets. Assam's decision to bat first nearly backfired after they struggled to push the scoring early, tied down by Jai Prakash Yadav and Sanjay Bangar. After Pervez Aziz fell with the score at 54, Arunkumar and Nishantha Bordoloi then added an unbeaten 108 for the fourth wicket as Railways struggled to get any breakthrough through the rest of the day.

Goa 258 for 6 (Rohit Asnodkar 68*, Wakhare 3-56) v Vidarbha

Rohit Asnodkar scored an unbeaten 68 to lift Goa to 258 for 6 against Vidarbha at Margao. Sent in to bat, openers Swapnil Asnodkar and Rupesh Sarvankar got Goa off to a good start adding 40 for the first wicket. Akshay Wakhare, the offspinner, struck twice to leave Goa in a spot of bother at 104 for 4. Rohit led the recovery, sharing some useful stands with the middle order, in particular the unbeaten 81-run stand with wicketkeeper Damodar Redkar, batting on 45.

Madhya Pradesh 229 for 5 (Ojha 65, Bundela 50*) v Kerala

Naman Ojha and Devendra Bundela scored half centuries as Madhya Pradesh ended the first day against Kerala at 229 for 5 at Palakkad. Ojha, opening the innings, laid the foundation with a fluent 65 off 118 balls. After he departed with the score at 105, Bundela, a seasoned domestic campaigner, took over and added 74 with captain Abbas Ali who made 39. Bundela remained unbeaten on 50 at the close. Sreekumar Nair, the Kerala captain, was the most effective bowler, taking 2 for 47 in 23 overs.

Tripura 147 for 7 (Chowdhury 49) v Services

A good bowling display from Services' bowlers restricted Tripura to 147 for 7 on the first day of their Plate Group match at the Palam A Stadium in New Delhi. AK Mohanty picked up three wickets, followed by Fazil Mohammad and Manish Jha with two and one respectively, with only Subal Chowdhury, Tripura's No. 3, offering resistance. Of the four bowlers used in the day, Mohanty and Mohammad bowled 46 overs.

Orissa 261 for 9 (Behera 61, Pati 41, Bhatia 6-71) v Himachal Pradesh

Vishal Bhatia, Himachal Pradesh's left-arm spinner, picked up a career-best six-wicket haul to dent Orissa's progress on the first day's play at Dharamshala. Orissa had begun well thanks to a 60-run opening stand between Bikas Pati (41) and Shiv Sunder Das (35) but following Ashok Thakur's breakthrough, Bhatia took centre stage. Orissa lost wickets at regular intervals, with only Niranjan Behera, the No. 3, scoring 61 and Sanjay Satpathy 38 from the No. 10 spot.
