Scorecard
Victoria, the defending champions, started their Sheffield Shield campaign with a commanding eight-wicket victory over an out-classed Western Australia. The Bushrangers controlled the contest at the WACA and were left needing only 62 for the success after the hosts were dismissed for a fighting 400 shortly after lunch.
Luke Pomersbach was responsible for avoiding the innings loss as his 89 boosted the Warriors along with some steady contributions from Ashley Noffke (25) and Ryan Duffield (31). They began the final day at 5 for 271 but lost Luke Ronchi and relied on Pomersbach until he was last-man out, stumped off David Hussey.
Hussey and Peter Siddle joined Damien Wright and Will Sheridan in taking two wickets, while Darren Pattinson finished the game with nine victims. Pattinson set up the victory with his 8 for 35 in the first innings and Michael Hill (17) finished it with two sixes of Michael Beer's last three balls. Nick Jewell was the first casualty, cutting Michael Hogan to gully on 20, and Aaron Finch went on 26 slicing to third man.
