Voges, Behrendorff leave WA well placed

Adam Voges's century gave Western Australia a sizeable lead against New South Wales after which Jason Behrendorff's incisive spell left the hosts with a shot at victory on the final day at the WACA Ground.

Western Australia were 81 runs behind in the first innings when Voges and Sam Whiteman resumed their stand on the third day. The partnership grew to 189 and Western Australia were well ahead when Whiteman was dismissed for 88 by offspinner Manjot Singh, who was playing his second first-class game for NSW.

Voges took the total past 400 and converted his century into a 150 with the tail for company, before he too was dismissed by Manjot. Sean Abbott finished with 4 for 71 as Western Australia were dismissed for 462 in 138.1 overs.

Having taken a lead of 118, Western Australia struck early through Behrendorff and Mitchell Marsh to reduce NSW to 2 for 36. Ryan Carters and Ben Rohrer steadied the innings with a 51-run stand but the recovery was cut short by Behrendorff, who dismissed Rohrer and Kurtis Patterson with the score on 87.

With six wickets left and 16 runs in deficit, NSW need their middle and lower order to bat time on the final day.
