Western Australia 287 (Voges 101, Marsh 55, Boland 3-43) and 1 for 26 need another 379 runs to beat Victoria 350 and 3 for 341 (Christian 105*, Stoinis 99, White 91)
Scorecard
Daniel Christian scored a century at better than a run a ball and Marcus Stoinis and Cameron White narrowly missed out on tons of their own as Victoria set Western Australia a hefty target at the WACA. Victoria declared their second innings at 3 for 341, which meant a target of 405 for Western Australia, and at stumps on the third day the Warriors were 1 for 26.
They had already lost in-form opener Cameron Bancroft, who was lbw to Chris Tremain in the first over of the chase. Michael Klinger was unbeaten on 12 and Tom Beaton had 14. The Victorians had shown how quickly runs could be scored on the WACA pitch as they raced along at 5.81 an over, with Christian the stand-out with an unbeaten 105 from 99 balls, his second hundred of the Sheffield Shield season.
Stoinis has also had a strong Shield campaign and is fourth on the competition run tally, but he has done so without yet registering a century and again missed out this time. On 99 from 92 balls, Stoinis was caught off the bowling of Simon Mackin, who also dismissed White for 91 from 97 deliveries before Matthew Wade's declaration came.
Nathan Rimmington had also picked up the wicket of Rob Quiney, but it was a difficult innings for the Western Australia bowlers, especially spinner Ashton Agar, whose 11 overs cost 104 runs. Earlier, the Warriors had added 68 to their overnight total for the loss of their last five wickets, which included captain Adam Voges for 101.
