Cartwright ton revives Western Australia

Hilton Cartright's rearguard century revived Western Australia and frustrated South Australia's bowlers on day one at the WACA

Western Australia 8 for 269 (Cartwright 105*, Worrall 4-68, Mennie 3-53) v South Australia
Scorecard
Hilton Cartwright's rearguard century revived Western Australia and frustrated South Australia's bowlers on day one at the WACA.
After being sent in to bat, the Warriors slid to 6 for 109 after lunch, with Daniel Worrall and Joe Mennie enjoying productive spells as the hosts struggled for traction. Nick Benton, playing his fourth first-class match, also chipped in, claiming the wicket of captain Adam Voges.
But Cartwright stood firm and formed partnerships with Nathan Rimmington, Joel Paris and Josh Nicholas to lift Western Australia to 8 for 269 by the close of play. Cartwright remained unbeaten on 105 including 17 fours and one six.
The Warriors, though, were without their first-choice wicketkeeper Sam Whiteman due to injury, with the opener Cameron Bancroft set to juggle the role.
SA's bowlers were unable to follow through on a good first half of the day, a recurring theme in many of their performances this summer. The day was a struggle for Chadd Sayers on his return from Australia duty in New Zealand, as he was unable to locate the right rhythm despite conditions that should have assisted him.
