Queensland 231 & 3 for 163 (Hemphrey 76*, Heazlett 41*, Mennie 2-24) trail South Australia 505 (Cooper 178, Lehmann 126, Doggett 4-82) by 111 runs
A fine century from in-form South Australia batsman Jake Lehmann has put the Redbacks firmly in control against Queensland at Adelaide Oval.
Lehmann needed just 24 on the third morning for his seventh first-class century. Despite losing Harry Nielsen early, he got support from Cameron Valente and Joe Mennie as he cruised to 126 before falling to an incredible outfield catch.
Lehmann slog swept Marnus Labuschagne high to deep midwicket. The ball carried all the way to the rope but Jack Wildermuth dived and took the catch over the rope, with his body airborne, and flicked it back to Charlie Hemphrey who completed the catch in the field of play.
Lehmann was the eighth man out, with the score at 460. But Kane Richardson, Chadd Sayers and Lloyd Pope were able to add another 45 to frustrate the Bulls and push the lead to 274.
Redbacks paceman Mennie then made the key early breakthrough. Test hopeful Matt Renshaw fell for a duck after managing just 3 in the first innings. Renshaw was out in the opposite fashion to his first-innings dismissal. Having been bowled by Mennie through the gate attempted an expansive straight drive on day one, he edged a ball that went across him off the seam while attempting to defend.
Joe Burns also missed out. He chopped on attempting to cut Sayers. Labuschagne made 28 from 82 balls before guiding Mennie straight to Jake Weatherald in the gully to leave the Bulls 3 for 61. But Hemphrey and Sam Heazlett steadied with a 102-run stand to guide the visitors to stumps, still trailing by 111 runs.
