Bangladesh Under-19s beat South Africa Under-19s by 140 runs in Mirpur. Bangladesh, who won the first match by five wickets, have taken a 2-0 lead in the seven-match Youth ODI series.
Batting first, the home side reached 259 for 4 in 50 overs. Openers Saif Hassan and Pinak Ghosh were dismissed by the 12th over and Shafiul Hayat too struggled for 46 minutes but the captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto and Zakir Hasan added 107 runs for the fourth wicket.
Shanto made 73 off 107 balls with seven fours and a six while Zakir was unbeaten on 81 off 83 balls. He added 80 runs for the unbroken fifth wicket stand with Mohammad Saifuddin who bashed 41 off 27 balls with one four and three sixes.
Left-arm spinner Sean Whitehead, who was adjudged man of the match in the first game for his four-wicket haul, continued to strangle the Bangladesh batsmen. He took 2 for 23 from his economical ten overs.
South Africa were bowled out for 119 runs in 43.2 overs, left-arm spinner Nihaduzzaman picked up three wickets while Mosabbek Hossain, Saleh Ahmed and Nazmul Hossain Shanto grabbed two each.
Opener Kyle Verreynne provided the only resistance but he too perished in the 32nd over after making a 91-ball 47. There were only three other double-digit scores in their batting line-up.
The two teams now move to the south of the country to play out the rest of the series in Cox's Bazar, which will host the next two matches, and Chittagong where the last three matches will be held.
