Cricinfo rounds up the action from the second round of matches in the SuperSport Series
The Warriors crushed the Eagles by 261 runs in the only result of the second round at Port Elizabeth. After Arno Jacobs (77) and Ashwell Prince (51) helped the Warriors reach 256 following an inspired spell of 4 for 36 by Victor Mpitsang, the Eagles were then dismissed for just 28. In a nightmarish innings, none of the batsman, barring Ryan Bailey, managing double-digit scores, with Makhaya Ntini and Lonwabo Tsotsobe sharing the spoils. The target of 500 set by the Warriors thereafter was going to be near impossible for the Eagles given the psychological scars from the first innings. And it was seamer Juan Theron whose seven-wicket haul wrecked the innings the second time around to help wrap up the match shortly after lunch on the final day.
Imraan Khan scored a century in both innings but it wasn't enough as the Dolphins were left searching for their first win after a draw against the Lions at Durban. Khan's no-nonsense approach gave the hosts a flying start after being put in by the Lions - his 115 coming in a shade over three hours off just 146 balls - and, together with captain Ahmed Amla, he put on a 137-run stand for the second wicket. Amla finished with a career-best unbeaten 164 when the Dolphins declared at tea on the second day. By stumps the Lions would have been a touch nervous, having lost three quick wickets with 81 on the board. However, Neil McKenzie (108) and Jonathan Vandiar (172 not out), playing in just his seventh SuperSport Series match, saw off the threat of a collapse as the Lions declared 80 runs behind on the third day. Imraan Khan's 103 then left Lions with a stiff target of 346 and the match petered out to a draw.
Jean-Paul Duminy's form with both bat and ball almost handed the Cape Cobras a precious away win against the Titans at Benoni. Having scored 124 after the Cobras chose to bat, the right-arm spinner looked to have the Titans on the brink of defeat with three wickets on the final day, only for captain Pierre Joubert and Imran Tahir to save the match for the Titans. Captain Vernon Philander played the perfect foil for Duminy in the first innings, smashing 63 off 61 balls as the Cobras finished on 417. Gulam Bodi's 138 then ensured that the good work done by the Cobras bowlers at the start was undone, as Farhaan Behardien and Albie Morkel scored half-centuries late on the second day to complete the Titans' fightback. Having bowled out the Titans for 413, the Cobras second innings was then marred by the loss of three wickets in the final session on day three as they extended their lead to 146, courtesy Henry Davids' 62 not out. The Titans needing 286 for victory only had to survive 57 overs to ensure a draw, but wickets falling frequently meant the match went to the wire, leaving the home side hanging on at 185 for 8 at the end.
Player of the Week - Imraan Khan
The stylish Dolphins left-hander played every shot in the book during his centuries (115 and 103) in either innings against the Lions. Khan, 24, who is of Indian origin, led South Africa's Under-19 team on their tour of England in 2003, without having played any first-class games at the time. Since then he has been a key member of the Dolphins squad scoring 3108 runs at 36.56. He was also among the star performers for South Africa in the Emerging Players Tournament in July this year.
