Al-Amin Hossain became the first bowler to take five wickets in one over in Twenty20 cricket. His feat helped UCB-BCB Eleven to a two-wicket win over Abahani Limited.
Al-Amin also became the second bowler to pick up four wickets in four balls in Twenty20s, Andre Russell having achieved it earlier this year for West Indies A against India A in Bangalore. The wickets were enough to restrict Abahani to 143, which UCB-BCB overhauled in a final-over finish.
Off the first ball of the final over of Abahani's innings, medium-pacer Al-Amin removed Mehedi Maruf. Two runs came off the next ball, and those were to be the last runs of the innings. In the next four balls, Al-Amin dismissed Nazmul Hossain Milon, Suhrawadi Shuvo, Naeem Islam jnr and Nabil Samad.
Tamim Iqbal followed up the bowling feat with a quick fifty that set UCB-BCB up nicely, but they lost their way in the middle overs. Subashis Roy took four wickets but UCB-BCB held on, Arafat Sunny completing the win with one ball to spare.
Tamim made 61 off 52 balls with five fours and two sixes, but it was Al-Amin's day and he was the Man of the Match.
The day's second match was full of individual performances and milestones too. Anamul Haque scored a maiden T20 hundred, which helped Prime Bank Cricket Club post 204 for 3 in their 20 overs. Mohammedan Sporting Club, in reply, were bowled out for 45, with Shakib Al Hasan taking six wickets.
Prime Bank's victory margin was the third biggest, in terms of runs, in Twenty20s, while Mohammedan's score was the third lowest in this format.
Shakib picked up his second six-wicket haul in T20s, having taken 6 for 6 in the Caribbean Premier League earlier this year. In his first over, the second of Mohammedan's innings, Shakib took three wickets in four balls to decimate their chase. He came back to pick up three more wickets, including the last two that sealed the game.
Earlier, Anamul struck five sixes and nine fours to score 105 off 63 balls. He found support in Shakib's unbeaten 57 off 28 balls, which contained six fours and three sixes. Over the course of his all-round performance, Shakib became only the second player in T20 cricket to take six wickets and score a half-century in the same game.
