Fifties from opener Marcus North and Adam Voges helped Western Australia reach a strong 5 for 263 against New South Wales on the second day of their Sheffield Shield game.

Responding to NSW's first-innings total of 344, Western Australia lost opener Cameron Bancroft to the first ball of the innings but North and Marcus Harris (49) consolidated with a 107-run, second-wicket partnership. After both batsmen were out within six overs of each other, Voges anchored the innings, adding 68 with Mitchell Marsh and an unbeaten sixth-wicket stand of 54 with Sam Whiteman.

Earlier, resuming from 7 for 291, the NSW batsmen, led by Sean Abbott, added 53 for the last three wickets to push the total to 344. Jason Behrendorff claimed two of the last three dismissals to finish with 5 for 65.
