When Corey Anderson and Shreyas Iyer came together in the 12th over, Delhi was still 77 runs adrift from an imposing 186-run target against Hyderabad, with just 50 balls remaining. The duo closed the gap to 44 off 30 by plundering a quick fire 39-run stand, for the fourth wicket, in just 4.2 overs they batted together. The onslaught helped Delhi, struggling for consistency this season, beat an inform Hyderabad unit by six wickets in the Indian Twenty20 competition at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi on Tuesday.
Delhi's stand-in captain, Karun Nair, had put Hyderabad in to bat first hoping that the wicket would stay true throughout the course of the game. But Hyderabad responded by smashing 66 in the Powerplay. Delhi's regained control in the middle overs but the early onslaught and an impressive display from Yuvraj Singh in the end helped them post a sizable 185. Delhi's openers Nair and Sanju Samson scored at 9.60 runs at the onset and set the tone for the chase, but regular wickets in the middle overs compounded the hosts' woes. By the 12th over they had posted 109 for 3.
With the asking rate touching 9.62, Anderson and Iyer came to the rescue. Iyer took just three balls to find the fence and he did so by lofting Yuvraj for consecutive sixes, one over long on and the other over midwicket. Anderson clubbed Siddarth Kaul for another in the next over. Iyer departed for a 25-ball 33, but his partnership with Anderson helped Delhi close in on the target. Anderson, remained unbeaten on 41 off 24 balls, and alongside Chris Morris took Delhi home with five balls to spare.
