†ENGLAND v PAKISTAN 1989-90

At Nagpur, October 30

15-Apr-1991
At Nagpur, October 30. Pakistan won by six wickets. Toss: Pakistan. The match was reduced to 30 overs a side after heavy overnight rain had soaked the outfield. England began briskly, their runs coming at 5 and then 6 an over, and only in the later stages of Pakistan's innings did they concede the initiative. It was swept away from them by Ramiz Raja and Salim Malik, who struck 122 of 77 balls for the fourth wicket. Malik, batting with a runner after straining a hamstring in the field, hit three sixes and six fours in his 66 off 41 balls, including 18 off four successive balls from Fraser. Ramiz faced 82 balls for his unbeaten 85, and hit eight fours. Until then Smith had been the dominant batsman, hitting six fours and two sixes in his half-century. Qadir dismissed Hussain, the indisposed Lamb and Smith in five balls, but Capel and Pringle struck back with 39 off 33 balls. And when DeFreitas sent back Miandad and Ijaz in quick succession, England had looked firmly in control.
Man of the Match: Ramiz Raja.
