New Zealand v West Indies, 2005-06

New Zealand v West Indies, 2005-06

Don Cameron
15-Apr-2007
At Napier, March 1, 2006. New Zealand won by 91 runs. Toss: West Indies. One-day international debut: R. L. Taylor.
With the series won, New Zealand made some changes - and won again after surprisingly being given first use of a fine, fast pitch. Vincent was uncertain at first, and when he saw Fleming, his opening partner, start by hitting boundaries everywhere he sat back and enjoyed the show. Fleming hit four successive fours off Bradshaw, then carved Butler for three consecutive off-side sixes next over. He was eventually out for 67, after which the in-form Astle put on 156 with Vincent, who accelerated to his second one-day hundred from 114 balls. After threatening to reach 300 twice before in the series, New Zealand sailed past it this time, and the total looked even larger when Gayle and Ganga departed quickly. West Indies were always off the pace, struggling past 200 in the 41st over. Morton eventually reached his first one-day century, but his 155-ball innings ended up more like batting practice.
Man of the Match: L. Vincent. Attendance: 5,403.
