Pakistan v Zimbabwe 1999-2000

At St John's, April 5

15-Apr-2001
At St John's, April 5. Pakistan won by five wickets. Toss: Zimbabwe.
Pakistan's first match of the tour ended in a comfortable victory. But Zimbabwe's third defeat gave West Indies a final berth and almost certainly meant their own elimination. Spin stifled the Zimbabweans after their openers had laid solid foundations. Arshad Khan and Mushtaq Ahmed had combined figures of two for 56 off 20 overs, while Shahid Afridi removed the dangerous Goodwin and Andy Flower. A total of 199 never looked enough, though Zimbabwe still had a chance when Pakistan were 153 for five. Afridi had blazed a forthright, run-a-ball 69, laced with five fours and three sixes, adding 68 with Inzamam-ul-Haq. But when both fell to Viljoen's left-arm spin and Yousuf Youhana was run out, Moin Khan and Abdur Razzaq steadied the nerves with an unfussy stand of 47.
Man of the Match: Shahid Afridi.
