On the third day at East London the Lions took a first innings lead of 117 over the Warriors after scoring 474 thanks to 126 from Vaughn van Jaarsveld. Forties from Matthew Harris, Andy Blignaut and Eugene Moleon added to the cause while Tyron Henderson (3 for 88) and Burton de Wet (4 for 112) were made to work hard for their wickets. It was van Jaarsveld's second, and highest, first-class hundred and 62 percent came in boundaries. At the close the Warriors were still well behind on 48 for 1.
At Durban the game is still very much in the balance. With only 64 overs bowled in the day the Cobras moved to 195 for 7 and extended their lead to 197 over the Dolphins. HD Ackerman, having moved back to Cape Town from Johannesburg, kept the Cobras hopes alive with a determined 61 while the rest looked to be set, only to lose their wickets in the tens and twenties. Saidi Mhlongo improved on his three first-innings wickets to end the day on 4 for 33.
There was no play at Bloemfontein between the Eagles and the Titans as rain made any action impossible.
