Sri Lanka v West Indies, 2015-16

Wisden's review of the second ODI, Sri Lanka v West Indies, 2015-16

15-Apr-2016
At Colombo (RPS), November 4, 2015 (day/night). Sri Lanka won by eight wickets (D/L). ‡West Indies 214 (37.4 overs) (J. Charles 83, M. N. Samuels 63); Sri Lanka 225-2 (36.3 overs) (M. D. K. J. Perera 99, H. D. R. L Thirimanne 81*). MoM: M. D. K. J. Perera. ODI debut: J. Blackwood (West Indies).
Charles did his best to atone for his first-match bowling by spanking 83 from 70 balls, but a rainbreak in the 27th over, which lopped 12 off each innings, was untimely for West Indies, who then lost six for 65 in 11 - four of them to silly run-outs. After a worrying time with injuries, Lasith Malinga looked back to full fitness: he had Andre Fletcher caught behind with his second ball, dismissed Jason Mohammed as well, and hit the stumps for two of the run-outs. Stand-in captain Marlon Samuels made 63, but could do little in the field as Kusal Perera and Lahiru Thirimanne piled on 156 for the second wicket, taking Sri Lanka close to their revised target of 225 in 38 overs. Samuels should not have been permitted to bowl, as the 14-day grace period since his action was reported had run out. But West Indies had chosen their team after being incorrectly advised by the ICC that Samuels could bowl.
